The Sea Saw
Author: Tom Percival
This is a really sweet story about a girl called Sofia who loses her favourite teddy bear at the beach, and then the story continues to follow the journey the bear takes without Sofia and ends with the satisfying notion that nothing is ever truly lose if you keep it in your heart.  It's a short, sweet, feel good book.

Perhaps the girl has lost her mother, as the reader, you sense this, although it is not said.  Sofia is only seen with her father throughout the story.

I really liked the illustrations in this book, and although it's not immediately obvious, the artwork was created in partnership with The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and it features many elements from over 50 art pieces from their collection. Google it, but basically, the author combined parts of pre-existing artwork to create the new art for his book, even Van Gogh is featured! It's a wonderful way of creating art, I loved the combined pieces, and use of textures etc within the book.

Mary Poppins: Illustrated Gift Edition
Author: P. L. Travers Illustrator: Lauren Child
A beauitfully illustrated hardback book - one to keep and treasure, and to pass on through generations! The colourful pictures are a delight, lots of fun and they helped to ignite their imaginations.  The story wonderfully delivers you straight in to Cherry Tree Lane and brings Mary Poppins to life!

Cardboard Box Creations
Authors: Lonely Planet , Laura Baker
Really well presented, the book sits inside a cardboard stack thats filled with sweet cardboard accessories to use with the projects inside the book.  The projects are varied, and would inspire even the least creative of people to get involved.  We were pleased that the instructions are really clear and easy to follow.  We really liked the drawings and photographs inside the book as they help the user see the end result which is always helpful with such big creative projects.

Super sweet and an essential book for all those who have ever played inside a cardboard box!!  (great for teachers too!!!)

Dave the Lonely Monster
Author: Anna Kemp Illustrator: Sara Ogilvie
We wanted to read this book because we were instantly drawn to the wonderfully colourful from cover illustrations of Dave the Lonely Monster with a rock guitar!! It's really well illustrated with plenty of detail to explore on each page.  It's a lovely rhyming story about a monster who has been banished away due to other peoples fears about monsters and their desire to live in peace.  Dave soon becomes lonely and its easy to feel sad for Dave, and for children to understand how he is feeling.  To make things worse, some people come along who are cruel to Dave, but along the way, Dave makes a friend, and eventually this new friend stands up to the others to protect Dave! Very nice story, and one we will read again!
