"I'll HAVE THAT!"
This is one of the books I reminisce about most from my childhood. I remember the joy of shouting Bill's catchphrase "I'll HAVE THAT" when my parents read this to me. Therefore, it was one of the first picture books that I bought my own children.
Burglar Bill is the story about a burglar that goes to work stealing things at night. One night, he finds a useful sized box and decides to steal it, but on arriving home he is shocked to find a baby inside. Despite being a burglar, Bill is kind really and he decides to look after the baby. One night, Bill is shocked to find out that he is being burgled!  He creeps downstairs to confront the burglar and finds out it is Burglar Betty - the baby's mum! The experience of being burgled himself makes Bill think about how frightening it is to have a burglar in your house and your things taken. He sees the error of his ways and decides to do the right thing. He returns every single item he has ever burgled and becomes a baker instead!
I still find this book entertaining, interactive and a good moral story in how a person can turn their lives around for the better. I still enjoy reading/shouting "I'll AVE THAT!" and so do my sons. It has all the qualities of the greatest Alhberg books, beautiful illustrations, entertaining and humorous storylines and a sweet morally correct ending.
It was great  thirty years ago and it's still great!

A classic! Works best if you can do some really good voices for the characters. A little bit outdated, but it still reads well and captivates a young audience!

I remember this book from my own childhood! It’s about a burglar who starts out bad but ends up good. Some of the text is a bit dated but the story is lovely and both my children enjoyed it

I loved this story as a child and kept my copy so I was delighted when my son was old enough to enjoy it too. And now he enjoys saying Burglar Bill's catchphrase 'I'll have that!' just as much as I do. The story is about two burglars deciding to change their ways after they find out what it's like to be burgled. A really lovely story.

My little ones enjoyed this story. I found it a little bizarre but I think that was part of the appeal for my kids. A burglar is out doing his stealing when he accidently steals a baby. My kids found it funny how he looks after the baby and that he gets burgled himself. It has a nice ending that my kids liked.

We all really enjoyed reading this book together, especially as it had a happy ending. The girls liked the illustrations and we talked about the pictures and the story in greater detail at the end. A fun family read that gave a nice opportunity to share memories from my own childhood which the girls loved.

A fantastic book for parents and children to enjoy. My daughter really enjoyed his loveable story about a Burglar who changes his ways and finds happiness. She especially liked the part where Bill finds the baby and takes him home; her favourite part is when he puts a towel on him as a nappy. Great illustrations and lots of humour make this a truly wonderful story.

This was one of my most favourite books when I was growing up, and there is something both surreal and wonderful, when you are able to share it with your won children. I love how un-PC it seems in this current day and age, and I think my children can feel my love of this book so love it too.

I love reading this book with my son. He has enjoyed listening to me reading it and will now read independently. It is a good story although I was quizzed about burglars the first time we read it. The characters are likeable and there's a lovely happy ending.
