Year 1 Reading List

Test

It's all about learning to read in Year 1 (or P2 in Scotland)!

Reading levels will vary tremendously at this age, but the most important thing is for children to still have lots of different books read aloud to them.

There's no need to move on from picture books, which are a brilliant way to encourage a love of reading. The illustrations and (often) rhyming text really help on the journey to independent reading.

There are also plenty of simple chapter books with bright and colourful illustrations for those children who do want a longer story.

Each child is different, particularly at this age, so choose whatever suits your little one, but books that make them giggle can be the best way to spark their interest and there are plenty of silly stories in our recommendations!
