This was one of the first books that I bought for Leo and he enjoys it more and more every time we read it. He loves the familiar Ahlberg illustrations that are packed with detail as you read through the story, and of course, taking each of the letters out to read them.

This book is an absolute classic, all 3 of my kids have loved reading this book over and over again, the Ahlberg illustrations are instantly recognisable and so comforting. The flaps are big enough for little fingers and the characters are all based on fairytales so the children have fun guessing who's coming next!

Loved how interactive this book is and the clever story that intertwines many nursery rhyme characters. One of my daughters favourites just like it was mine when I was her age!

This is a children's classic - the Jolly postman delivers mail to a host of fairytale characters (little red riding hood, the three bears, Humpty Dumpty). The book is very interactive as each piece of mail is included in the book. As a previous reader noted, this makes it a very long read for a bedtime story (I made that mistake the first time too!), and it is more suited to a time when you can read it at leisure and examine in detail all the pull out pieces (such as tiny books, postcards and adverts). You also need to take care that you put everything back in the book (it is easy to lose the odd bit of post!). Overall a great book that children live.

It's really great that the book is so interactive, with a different letter to read on each page, sent by familiar fairytale characters. It's a really funny book, that both adults and children can enjoy. It's not the book to choose if you want  a quick bedtime read though, as there is so much detail.

I would highly recommend this book, it is interactive with the children being to open the post as such and read the letters which are all linked to classic stories and poems.  It really is a delightful classic story which will entertain generations for many years to come.

One of our all time favourite books! Each page contains a proper envelope with a letter beautifully held inside for the child to open and read - my boys loved the one from Goldilocks apologising to the Three Bears for inviting herself into their house! the illustrations are lovely and the theme of the book tells of responsibility and the need to say sorry. this is one of our absolute favourites!

I'll I remembered this playful classic from my own childhood and couldn't wait for my own children to enjoy it.

You'll need to devote some time to enjoying this together - definitely one to look at during the day when there's no need to rush; as opposed to using it as a bedtime story. The children will want to examine the letters in detail! Even taking out and replacing the letters in the envelopes can take a while with very little ones!

Part of the joy of the book is the familiar faces on each page; the humour is within the letters themselves as they hint at the story after the original fairytale ended. The content is brilliantly conceived. The illustrations are gorgeous and simple rhyming prose make it a pleasure to read out loud.

My two year old and one year old thoroughly enjoy The Jolly Postman - but they do miss a lot of the in-jokes that they will come to understand with age and a better understanding of the original stories of the characters. The other thing to note with toddlers is that this isn't a book to let them persue unsupervised; the envelope pages look susceptible to tears if little ones are too enthusiastic and the letters are only pieces of paper at the end of the day!

This is a book with longevity: it's a joy to read now and will only become more so over the next few years. A definite for the book-shelf!

I love this book and remember having it as a gift as a young child so was keen for my children to read it and enjoy as well.

I love reading about the postman's journey and seeing the various letters that appear on that journey.

A fun book with an interactive element which is lovely and not at all dated.

Loved this book as a child and couldn't wait to read it to my little boy. He's now 6 and still enjoys reading it with me. The story and illustrations are lovely. Also, it's exciting to see what the Jolly Postman has to deliver to the various characters in the book, with little slots for you to get them out to see what they've got. You won't be disappointed.

A wonderful book that I really enjoyed sharing with my little girl . It's about a postman who delivers mail to the fairy-tale characters we all love i.e. Red-Riding Hood, Three bears, etc. Each page has the mail they receive in the form of cards or letters; the letters are my daughter's favourite part. The illustrations are fantastic as are the cards and letters. it will definitely be a favourite with us!

I had this book when I was little so when my mum brought a copy for my daughter I was so happy. We've read this book about 3 or 4 times now and my daughter still enjoys it.
I think it's a great story based on characters of stories we know.
My daughter loves to take out the letters on each page for me to read them to her. She likes to point out things on the pages too.

I read it to JP Bristol aged 3 aged 3
The Jolly Postman or Other People's Letters 9780670886241

I wanted to try this book as Peepo and Each Peach Pear Plum had gone down really well when the boys were little. Again the rhyming text makes this really readable and the boys enjoy listening to the book where they already recognise the characters as it brings together many of the fairytale classics (Cinderella, Jack in a Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood etc).  However parents be warned- the post that the Jolly Postman delivers are all included in the book so whilst it is fun and novel for the children to have an interactive book as they open all the envelopes and discover the contents, it does take a while to get through- not recommended for bedtime unless you have a lot of time!
