First Prize for the Worst Witch
Author: Jill Murphy
My 8 year old loves the Worst Witch series and this latest book didn't disappoint. She described the story as "classic Mildred Hubble" and she thought it was very funny. She read it to herself in a few days

The Butterfly Lion
Author: Michael Morpurgo Illustrator: Christian Birmingham
My daughter was wary of reading this book as she has found other Morpurgo books too sad so I read this to her. It is an enchanting story about a beautiful enduring friendship between a young boy and an orphaned lion cub. We were both enchanted by the story and the characters. It had all the elements needed in the perfect story although we were both a little disappointed by the ending which I thought was unnecessary

Enchantimals: Best Friends Forever: Book 1
Author: Enchantimals
My daughter absolutely loved this book and read it in two sittings. She is a fan of the toys and this gave her some context for playing with them.

A Tale of Two Kitties
Author: Dav Pilkey
My daughter loved the cartoon style of this book and read it in one day! She is a huge fan of the Captain Underpants books and enjoys the silly humour. It's comic book layout makes it easy to read by herself without help.

Max the Detective Cat: The Disappearing Diva
Author: Sarah Todd Taylor Illustrator: Nicola Kinnear
My 7 year old daughter really enjoyed this book. She said it was funny and she enjoyed the cat becoming more interesting than just a pampered pet. It has inspired her to set up mysteries for our cat to solve but clearly ours doesn't have Max's talent. Certainly a fun easy read for 7-8 year olds
