Exquisite new hardback editions of the classic Noggin the Nog books about a friendly Viking, based on the beloved BBC series created by Oliver Postgate and BAFTA-award winning Peter Firmin, creators of The Clangers, Bagpuss and Ivor the Engine.

Norse King Noggin the Nog loves being king of his people by helping to repair their houses and making sure they have enough food to eat. But when one day he decides to be king of the birds as well, will the birds accept him as their ruler?

Perfect for fans of Cressida Cowell's How to be a Viking, Noggin the Nog pairs Peter Firmin's charming and colourful illustrations with Oliver Postgate's inimitable storytelling to create the ideal books for children who are becoming independent readers.

Peter Firmin partnered with Oliver Postgate to found Smallfilms in 1959 and together they went on to produce some of the BBC's best-loved television shows for children including Ivor the Engine, Noggin the Nog, Bagpuss and The Clangers - which recently returned to screens in the US and UK, narrated by William Shatner and Michael Palin.

This book was very funny. I especially like it as it said that noggin the king made a bird-box and I love looking after nature. I also like that because at my school we have a bird-box and in there we had blue tits. What was good was that our blue tit babies flew away. This was a very good book and I would love to read more of these books! I would recommend this book to my best friends. Five stars.

Lovely early reader book for my daughter who could read it quite easily. Lots of repetition which was good. More subdued than a lot of books these days in terms of content and colours but a lovely little story

We loved reading this book. Robert enjoyed the story and loved the character of Noggin, who Mummy remembered from her childhood.  We liked the fact that the book was small so easy to pack in a bag for trips away. This book is fast becoming a favourite.

I read it myself (an adult) & to Belllboo aged 9 aged 9

This book reminds me of the type book I learned to read with.  Easy sentences, repetitive and sketchy pictures.  I like the small size too.
It's a sweet story about a good King that likes to help people and wants to become king of the birds. The only problem with this sweet little book is that it isn't exiting, so a child will probably only be interested in reading it once.  Saying that Bell likes the pictures and has attempted to copy the style.

I read this book in about 10 minutes. I like the fact that is hard back and little. I liked the pictures but not the colours. It is a story about a king that want to do good things for the people and animals. There isn't many words per page so more suitable for 5/6 year old. The words are quite repetitive too. Isn't a book I would read again.

A charming old-fashioned hardback book with beautiful illustrations, although they were in single colour and Harry prefers bold and colourful. Harry (6) was able to read most of this himself and it didn't take long to read. The text was quite repetitive so it's  great for early readers. King Noggin wants to know if he can be ruler of the birds and I was expecting a moral at the end of the story but it didn't arrive! I don't think this is one we'll have for bedtime very often but it's more likely to be one that Harry may pick up occasionally when he's wanting something to read for himself.

The pictures are charming and my 4 year old loved this book (asking to have it read to him many times). However, this is a three star book for me, as the story is a bit repeatative and...somewhat dull. Which is quite dissapointing as we have other Noggin the Nog books and were quite excited by this new set of books.

This is a very small book; about 12cm by 16cm which is quite cute. It is really what I would consider a prereader book. The story uses repetitive phrases and simple language and is probably suited to children just learning to read (Year 1/2). The story is a bit odd and old fashioned without really having any point to it. King Noggin wants to help the birds and wonders if he is King of the birds. He goes to a forest following birds with bells (what's that about?) and gets crowned by an owl. I was expecting a moral twist at the end but there wasn't one. Overall, a cute looking small hardback book but we read it in about 2 minutes and are unlikely to read it again. Son was quite uninterested. The illustrations are OK, though a little dull with single colours.

I read this book to Leo and neither of us know what to make of it. I wouldn't choose it to read to him again and I don't think he'd choose it either.
The illustrations are very detailed ink sketches but are not very eye-catching, in my opinion. Thr text is highly repetitive but, in my opinion, too much so. In most of the sentences, the beginning section is the end of the previous sentence. It is not repetitive in a way that makes the child want to repeat the words with you.
It is a very simple story told in a very convoluted manner that we don't like. Sorry.
