It's not easy when you come from Somewhere Else. Especially when you smell of trains and fish. When Mr Blanket lost his job in the city and couldn't find it again,it seemed like things would never get better. 'I wish,' said Dottie, closing her eyes and trying her hardest not to wobble, 'that I lived on a bright green hilltop!' Suddenly, her wish comes true! Mr Blanket gets a new job in The Middle of Nowhere. Dottie soon finds that The Hilltop is the Middle of Somewhere as she gets to meet Winnie Crisp, Tom Tractor, Blod Evans, the Rowland twins and the Fidgets. And on the Hilltop she doesn't need wishes, because the magic happens on its own.

I liked this book because it was easy to follow. I liked the characters, especially Dottie. It was great she found happiness and friendships when she moved. My best bit was when she got to feed the lambs.

We finished this book within 24 hours of receiving it. A lovely story about a girl who moves to a new town and school and about her journey making friends in a new place. My daughter connected with the characters instantly and was totally engaged with the story. I struggled to read a few of the Welsh words but it didn't diminish our enjoyment of the book at all.

Dottie is a lovely girl who dreams about moving to the house on a bright green hilltop. When her dad loses his job her dream comes true! She meets new friends, enjoy the new school and her life in a small village. My daughter was very excited when she saw the cover of this book and asked immediately what is it about. A few minutes later she was preoccupied with reading. She is 7 and it was easy for her to read (except for Welsch words ). Illustrations are really good (especially that Mina May is only 13!!!). Suzanne was really impressed and she said she wants to be an artist like her .
It's a great book - perfect for read in the garden:)

A lovely story about being different and coming from different places - and how thinking positive and making wishes things can happen! Dottie is a sweet little character and my twins loved the Rowland Twins. the only negative is that this book is quite long, so my boys did get a bit fidgety so we read it over several bedtimes, and there arent very many pictures n the book. Otherwise this is a great story to get the imagination going. 4 stars.
