Max, chief mouse-hunter at the Theatre Royal, is up to his whiskers in his first mystery!

Max is a pampered cat, used to the finer things in life, until a fun mouse chase goes badly wrong and he finds himself scruffy and alone and hiding out at the Theatre Royal.

It's here that Max takes on his first case as a detective cat, when he notices that famous singer Madame Emerald is acting strangely. Why is her maid so terrified? And what kind of singer doesn't like to sing in public? Soon Max is trapped in a complicated web of crime, dashing round dancers' legs and over the rooftops of London in a race to catch a clever thief...

My 7 year old daughter really enjoyed this book. She said it was funny and she enjoyed the cat becoming more interesting than just a pampered pet. It has inspired her to set up mysteries for our cat to solve but clearly ours doesn't have Max's talent. Certainly a fun easy read for 7-8 year olds

This is an imaginative and sweet story about the journey that Max the cat makes from pampered tabby to a feline detective. The story is told from the point of view of Max. The book features lovely illustrations. My son loves animals so hearing the story from Max's point of view was really interesting. Max finds a home and a role in the local theatre. There he come across a bit of a mystery that he helps to solve with his friend Oliver. It was really fun to stop and try to guess what might be happening, just like Max. We really enjoyed it. The sense of happiness and belonging Max found at the end was delightful.

I have just started reading longer books to my daughter who is 5 and she is loving this sweet story of Max. The book is told from the perspective of Max the cat who goes from a pampered kitty to a detective. My daughter is a huge cat fan so this is two thumbs up from her and me!

MAX POINTS! "I thought this was very good, a big adventure! Sometimes it was so fun, I got really into it, sometimes there was so much going on and some really funny parts in it. Exciting, really good story." Kikki age 6
She really enjoyed this, took her time with it, seemed to enjoy reading a few chapters, leaving it and then coming back to it over a period of time. She was really satisfied with the ending and looking forward to more!

We love cats in our house (having got an extremely pampered cat ourselves) so my son could really relate to Max.  This book is told from Max's point of view and tells the tale of how Max goes from a very spoilt cat to a super detective.  Great writing, nice pace to the story, this tale captured us to the very end.  Highly recommended.

This book is really good. First of all, Maximilian is ditched by Countess Arlington because he's not behaving like an Arlington cat and meets a cat called Oscar, who knows the city like the back of his paw. Oscar takes Maximilian onto the rooftops. Maximilian sees the Theatre royal and goes inside. Near the end of the story, the most exciting part happens. It was a delight to read.

Maximilian the cat can't understand why he's been taken to the canal after a day of misbehaving. Fortunately, he's able to escape and meets a friendly stray cat who shows him the Theatre Royal which becomes his new home.

We found the bit where Max finally realises his owner replaced him very sad but we're glad he found such good friends and a new family at the theatre where he solves his very first mystery. A famous singer has arrived but she's nothing like every one imagined she would be. Only Max manages to put all the clues together.

An easy to read book, 'The Disappearing Diva' is ideal for mystery fans. The  lovely illustrations by Nicola Kinnear are a treat. Amatullah enjoyed reading this book. It was a step up from her usual short chapter books. A lovely book, the first of a cracking new series which we can't wait to read more of. Max is such a loveable and memorable character we're sure he'll be a favourite of many readers

A charming tale about Max, a rather intelligent cat who turns detective at the Theatre Royal. An enjoyable and amusing story. My son enjoyed it because it was about a cat (desperately wants one at the moment). He loved it when Madame Emerald has to climb down a drainpipe in order to escape.

A cracking little mystery told through the eyes of a gorgeous cat who's rather come down in the world. Lucky enough to find himself a job as Theatre Mouser, he stumbles across a jewel thief and saves the day. Nicely written and ideal for Y3+ - fans of Maxwell Mutt will appreciate Max the Cat just as much.

This is a cute story that could be enjoyed by a confident reader aged about 7. The feline element really appealed to the child that I gave the book, too, and she delighted in the whimsy element of a cat becoming a detective.
