Tales from Acorn Wood: Friends
Author: Julia Donaldson Illustrator: Axel Scheffler
The first page starts with all the characters from the tales from acorn wood. My daughter liked naming them all before we read the story. It didn’t rhyme like I expected or follow a story but it was still nice to read. It was a lovely introduction to friends and showing activities they enjoyed doing together. My daughter picked it up quickly and was reading it to herself saying key bits about each page she remembered.

Little Fish and Mummy
Author: Lucy Cousins Illustrator: Lucy Cousins
Another lovely book by this author. We enjoy the count with little fish and my daughter loves the pictures. She was thrilled to see this book and describes all the fish. The book rhymes throughout until the end and flows nicely as you read it. It’s a cute little story of a little fish and it’s Mummy. Nice length for her age too and as it’s a board book she can read it herself easily without causing any damage. Highly recommended!

Farm Sounds
Author: Sam Taplin Illustrator: Federica Iossa
This book is a lovely sound book, much better than others we have had. The sounds are very realistic and instead of the chunky buttons on the side you usually see the buttons are incorporated in the pages and you simply run your finger over them to make them work. Little hands can do this easily. It has been designed cleverly and isn’t chunky like you’d expect it to be. You also have an on/off switch on the back which is a handy feature! The pictures are lovely and vibrant. The pages have little peep holes and cut out sections to feel too. Best sound book that I’ve seen and it impresses others who have seen it too.

Ted's Shed Phonics Reader
My daughter really enjoys the rhyming in this book and repeats phrases back to me. Easy to read and follow the story. It also gave a couple of pull out pages. My daughter loves finding the yellow duck on each page too. At first I didn’t think much of the story but my daughter keeps choosing it and likes to read along where she can remember certain phrases. Now that I’ve read it more it is simple to read and is quite a nice story.

Easter Bunny Flap Book
Author: Sam Taplin
My daughter had this last year for Easter and I would say it fitted her age group well then (1 years old). However, she’s recently found it and has enjoyed reading it every night for the past week. It’s a nice simple story where you have to find the eggs which the Easter bunny has hidden with the flaps inside the book. My daughter likes to count the eggs on the last page. Nice and simple but great for Easter!
