Tales From Acorn Wood: Friends is a lovely story about friendship. The children liked seeing all the familiar characters from acorn wood in this book and it was lovely for them to see how each of the animals had friends. I particularly liked how it showed that some of the characters had more than one friend and that they were friends with others but not always together at the same time as it was good to show the children the relationship in this way as we have some children currently that don't understand they can still be friends and not be with  / play with each other all the time. It was great to see how the book showed the friends in different activities in which we think about our friends and it showed different ways the animals had been kind and helpful to their friends and it allowed us to talk about what the children liked to do with their friends, a lot of them said they liked dressing up like fox and mouse. The characters in the book are all so different and fun for the children to see. They liked how all the animals were different as they all had a preference to their favourite animals. We don't get to know much about the animals in this book but with the brilliant illustrations we are able to work out a bit more about their lives. The children enjoyed looking at the illustrations in this story and liked the familiarity of Axel's drawings which drew them into choosing this book to read in the first place. They were a bit disappointed there were no flaps in this book which would have been a nice touch to make it a bit more interactive. The children enjoyed being read friends and it is a great book to see different friendships being modelled. With it being a board book it is perfect for any younger children and something they can enjoy on their own or being read to, a great story the children will enjoy again and again!

The pages of this book are strong and sturdy. I liked how the illustrations were beautifully designed with bright colours and clearly laid out in a white backing so they stood out. My 2 year old enjoyed identifying the animals and characters in this book which taught her about friendship.

A beautiful sturdy, well made book with a lovely light gloss to the pages. We adored the opening to this book with illustrations and names of all the friends from Acorn Wood, children can see the characters and can learn to identify animals and their names. Detailed story illustrations on white backgrounds with all the friends involved in the story, a lovely book about friendship.

Another nice book in the Acorn wood range, introducing the concept of friends and doing things together. Great for toddlers just learning social skills. However there are no flaps, and the pictures are all recycled from other Acorn wood books. I can see why, but my daughter seems to prefer them in the original rhyming stories.

The first page starts with all the characters from the tales from acorn wood. My daughter liked naming them all before we read the story. It didn’t rhyme like I expected or follow a story but it was still nice to read. It was a lovely introduction to friends and showing activities they enjoyed doing together. My daughter picked it up quickly and was reading it to herself saying key bits about each page she remembered.

Lovely book. Great pictures. The story is simple and definitely great for young children. It is always a good story to read to children as a conversation starter about being a good friend.

We have really loved the other books in the Acorn Wood series but were a little bit disappointed with this one. Most of the pictures were recycled from other stories and there weren't any flaps to open. This was particularly obvious when my one year old tried to reach for the place where there has been a flap in other books.

Having said that he really enjoyed pointing out all the characters and there is lots of opportunity to talk about friendship and what that means. We have read it lots of times and the illustrations are excellent. Good quality board book.

This book is beautifully illustrated and features the well-known characters from previous Tales From Acorn Wood. It has the potential to be a great book, but it lacked a linear narrative structure. There was no real connection from page to page and my 3 year old struggled to follow what was happening. It is perhaps more appropriate for younger children who are not used to reading more structured stories.

My two daughters have enjoyed this series of books since they were younger. My eldest knows many of the books by heart and my youngest absolutely adores the different characters.
Friends is a collection of illustrations from the previous books, explaining to young readers about the friendships the different characters have. There isn’t a story as such.
Admittedly I was expecting a story of some sort about the different animal
characters however, my youngest daughter really liked the book as all the characters are familiar to her.
The book doesn’t have lift the flaps like others in the series but it is full the brim within a Scheffler’s fantastic illustrations.
