Year 6 Reading List

Test

Year 6 (P7 in Scotland) is a busy and important year - preparing for the transition to secondary school can be both exciting and nerve-wracking.

Not only will reading for pleasure set children up brilliantly for independent learning in Year 7 and beyond, but lots of books for this age tackle important topics that may be on your Year 6’s mind.

Books are a great way to deepen children’s learning and create family or class discussions, but there are plenty of silly, funny and fantastical reads for this age group too. Year 6 children should be more confident in the type of books they like to read, so be led by them.

We all look back fondly on the classics we read in our childhoods, and whilst there is nothing quite like sharing one of your old favourites, it is important to discover new authors too. There are some fantastic new books that will really spark your child’s imagination and that are relevant for the times we live in.
