A classic Charlie and Lola board book story about starting school from Children's Laureate Lauren Child. Charlie's little sister Lola is nearly big enough to go to school... but Lola is not so sure. She thinks it probably would be useful to read and write and count, but she doesn't really have time for lessons - she's much too busy doing extremely important things at home. And anyway, Lola's invisible friend, Soren Lorensen, is slightly nervous about going to school. This wonderfully imaginative tale of starting-school worries is perfect for sharing with the very youngest Charlie and Lola fans.

It has been a long time since I have read a Charlie and Lola book to my son. Even now though he still enjoyed the humour within this book. He said that the best thing about this book was the pictures, especially of the elephants. He was slightly jealous of the fact that Charlie and Lola don't have to wear a school uniform. Overall, a great story, which young children can easily relate to in terms of Lola's (Soren Lorensen's) fears and anxieties about starting school.

We were given this book as a gift before my youngest started school. It was a really wonderful way to approach any misgivings about school she may have had. Lola is reluctant to go to school for lots of reasons and her brother Charlie very calmly tells her whats good about going to school. A few years on and it's still a firm favourite with my little girl reading it to me instead of the other way around.

I read this story to my class on their first day of school. A great book to read to children during this time as it went over any concerns a child might have in a comical way. Great illustrations as well. Book is rather long so it does take you a while to read it but it is a very enjoyable story with characters children already know about.

We enjoy the Charlie and Lola books and have read many. This book is one of the earlier ones and we see how Lola meets her best friend. It's about Lola being apprehensive about starting school but Charlie explaining why it's good. Lola then does her first day at school and all is fine. My kids enjoyed this book, especially as Lola meets her best friend. Lovely illustrations as always.

My son wasn't happy about starting school and we used this book to help him accept and adjust to the big change. Relatable due to the familiar characters.

My daughter loves charlie and lola books, so I knew she would be a big fan of this. She is going to nursery school so thought this would be great for her, as in this book Lola is starting big school and she is nervous about going. This would be a great book for those starting nursery or school. It is a lovely book and its entertaining, but I think it could have the potential to still worry a child if they tend to worry, as it lists things in the book they might worry about, which may not have occurred to them before, but it does put a positive spin on everything.
