A deliciously funny tale from Lauren Child - the superstar creator of Clarice Bean and Charlie and Lola - especially for World Book Day!
Hubert Horatio is quite possibly the most responsible and clever child you will ever meet.
This is the very fishy tale of how an ordinary day became the death-defying rescue of Hubert Horatio. And who did the rescuing? Why Hubert, of course...

My daughters and I loved reading this this book. It’s about a clever little boy and irresponsible parents and when the father finds a silver ticket but when they let go of Horatio’s pram he has to take matters into his own hands and gets mistaken for a magical fish and go on many magical journeys. My girls found it funny and an exciting book and already read it again. Lovely short story book in paperback form.

This story is silly and hilarious. It's got all the quirks of a Lauren Child book with lots of fun illustrations throughout. It's a quick read and would be perfect for any child age 6+.

We enjoyed this immensely.  As a WBD book it's short (so suits Lucas and his limited attention span sometimes!) but it's gloriously quirky.
Horatio is a bit of a child prodigy whilst his posh parents seem to pretty much inhabit a world of their own.  When Horatio is abandoned outside a shop in his pram it sets in motion a very fishy turn of events that sees him mistaken for a fish and wrapped up for someone's supper!
There are plenty of illustrations and the type heads off in all sorts of directions which makes it interesting to read.
A WBD bargain!

We absolutely loved this book! It is the story of Hubert Huratio who is a very clever baby with very irresponsible parents! They are so irresponsible that they leave him behind when they rush off to a shop to buy a SOS whistle for Hubert, to keep him safe!

This book is gloriously surreal with wonderfully wacky illustrations. It was a delight to read and made my daughters squeal with laughter. Fittingly for a World Book Day book, it introduced them to words they hadn't come across yet and has helped increase their vocabulary. Highly recommended!

This book was amazing and it is about a clever little boy and very irresponsible parents one day his farther finds a silver  ticket but when they let go of the pram  Hubert Horatio had to take matters into his own hands he stered from left and right. In the story he gets mistaken for a fish a magical fish and goes on many underwater Adventures. This book is very interesting and has big words so that you  can read it . I recommend if you are about 6 to 10 you will like this book. I really enjoyed this book I read it in a matter of 2 days I couldn't put it down.

This is a rather unusual story. My son thought it was 'weird' and initially, wasn't particularly impressed. However, when we got to the stage where a woman mistakes Hubert for a newspaper wrapped talking haddock, he could not help laughing. By the end of the story he said that he would definitely recommend it to anyone and that it was very funny. However, he did still say, it was still very 'strange', 'How can a baby talk?', and 'How could the fishmonger not notice he was wrapping up  a baby not a fish?'. Bizarre, but great.

My class loved that we were reading a chapter book instead of our normal picture books. However, it didn’t feel like a chapter book. It was easy to read and follow with wonderful illustrations. The children loved going on an adventure with Hubert and we shared lots of laughter when reading!

I liked this story because it was so funny. It is all about a boy called Hubert who is only a baby, but he is very responsible and clever because his parents are not. A very funny book about what happens to Hubert when his parents leave him outside a shop and he races down a hill. The illustrations were great and I would recommend it to 6+.

I like this author, as I read the Charlie and Lola books when i was younger, and my younger sister still reads them. The illustrations are the same, which is good, as it was one thing I enjoyed when reading this author's books. It was easy to read, not very long, and I thought the author did a great job, writing such a great story in as short length as it was. It was funny, especially the bit when the old lady thought Hubert was a talking fish. I liked how the text changed, when Hubert was whizzing down the road in his pram, the text was written in different directions to match what was happening, which i found interesting. What happened to Hubert was unfortunate, but I was glad he was ok and clever enough to get himself out of the mess and back to his parents, without them even realising what an adventure he had had.

I love this book - it is very clearly a Lauren Child book. The unusual story line, the excellent use of language and words in all directions and in different size fonts. A funny story which you can link to others - the request for 3 wishes - and they were brilliantly thought out. A really amusing story with fabulously names characters and the embarrassment factor talking to a fish!  I love that a fish is more likely to have a wallet than a cauliflower. This would spark lots of interesting conversations with children. Highly recommend this world book day book!

We read this book and we did enjoy it but it is a very strange story! Hubert has very irresponsible parents and even though he is a a little baby he has to get himself out of a very strange situation.  The whole tale is quite absurd which made the children laugh as it became more and more improbable. Lauren Child has great illustrations and the way the text ‘moves’ around the pages is very clever.

A good story about the adventures of Hubert a clever young baby. When his pram rolls away from his mum and dad he ends up in a fishing net with lots of haddock. Luckily wrapped up in paper a kind old lady returns Hubert and his parents have no idea of his adventures. Lots of pictures, I just wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next.

Leo loved reading this extraordinary exciting tale together. The story centers on an exceptionally intelligent, talented and sensible child called Hubert Horatio Bartle Bobton-Trent. He and his parents - Mr and Mrs Bobton-Trent, are out enjoying his first outing in a pram when it all starts to go wrong. Leo really liked the sketched illustrations and interesting text layout, it was just a shame that the story was a bit short. He would have liked to find out more about the irresponsible things Hubert's grown-ups got up to.

This is a short story about how Hubert's parents briefly lost him in the street as a baby, and how Hubert got back to his parents. I thought it was funny when he was pretending to be a fish. It was a bit odd but in a funny way. The only downside was that it was too short. I liked the illustrations. I like this book because I have another book about Hubert.

We thought it was a very weird story... clever how the three wishes were used but still very strange. Also some of the pages the writing was on dark background and harder to read.

A quirky little story that is ok for a free book for World Book Day but we didn't like the actual publication of the book - it was too small, feels very cheap and the text is tiny. Really needs to be republished as a glossy picture book to show off the illustrations better.
