I grew up with the original Topsy & Tim books 40 years ago.
When we were having problems with a 2 year old being scared of the dentist I headed to the nearest bookshop for inspiration, and found a new version of an old favourite.
It tells all about a visit to the dentist, both Tim's straightforward check-up and Topsy's filling.  It also touches on Josie having to have a brace (that definitely wasn't covered in the 1970s version!).
This was Jess's first Topsy & Tim book and she's hooked - we've now got a pile of my originals on the shelf as well - and we usually have to read at least 5 every day!  The stories and illustrations are much more up to date (reading some of the old ones now makes me cringe and I have to miss out chunks), and Jess enjoys them every bit as much as I did.
The characters are likeable.  They're nice children who can be mischievous, making it easy to relate to them.
We now play dentists regularly at home (instigated by Jess, needless to say), and our return to the dental surgery a couple of weeks after buying this was a completely different story.  She's still not completely confident but will at least open her mouth now.  It helps to make it a more normal experience.

I bought this book after my son went to dentist and wouldn't open his mouth. Started reading it about a week before his next visit and he was absolutely fine.

However, I did edit it as I was reading aloud slightly. It mentions disclosing tablets ( you know the ones that show the plaque on your teeth - delightful!) and I thought it was too much detail for my son at the time.

But other than that, it's great!
