This book is a classic (and one of my most favourite children's books ever!). It's about Gerald and his quest to enter a dancing competition in the jungle. The story has such a wonderful rhythm to it; it's a pleasure to read aloud. The illustrations are, as you'd imagine from Giles Andrae, brilliant. Most of all, the themes of celebrating difference and developing self-esteem are timeless. It's beautifully touching and brings a tear to my eye at the end.

We love this story. I have 4 very different children who all have their very own way of doing things. This story is a celebration of that. Its colourful, fun and brilliant. A great story for all the family.

There is a reason this book is a classic: it makes you feel good every time you read it. A truly lovely tale about being true to yourself and finding your place in the world, every child should have a copy of this story. It's a bedtime favourite in our house, and we read it almost every night!

Great story about  Gerald the giraffe how goes to the yearly jungle dance and is laughed at by all the other animals cause he can't dance ! He walks home only to find a friendly cricket how helps him understand music and shows him how to dance.it rhymes beautifully and the illustrations are great well worth a read

We really love this book and have the paperback version which we definitely prefer. The story is quite long and so better suited to an older child, who therefore would probably not require a boardbook version. The pictures are lovely but have been slightly cut down to fit into the board books size. A very good story about being yourself and finding your own way to do things, but better suited to the large picture book version.

I liked the bit when Gerald began leaping in the air. I also liked the bit when Gerald threw his legs out sideways in the air. I found the story fun.

I thought this was a really nice little read. There are a lot of words, so my daughter hasn't really wanted to read it before now, but at nearly 2 she has much more patience and is happier to sit for longer. The moral of the story is lovely and I thought the rhymes were really quite good. I liked the fact that there were a few of the lesser known animals involved. The pictures are nice, but quite busy on small pages hence 4 not 5 stars. Definitely a lovely read though, and the board book means my daughter can't ruin the book when she has it on her own!
