This is a regular book for my nearly 3 year old's bedtime story after choosing to buy it at a zoo in America. It is a beautiful book with a lovely moral. Just because Geoffrey is unable to dance like the other jungle animals they ridicule him however, once he finds the music for him, he can dance like the best of them. A fabulous book.

Gerald the tall, lanky somewhat ungainly giraffe desperately wants to join in with the formal dancing at the Jungle Dance.... but as soon as he tries the others laugh and make fun of him.... causing him to leave the event. He comes across a violin-playing cricket and loves the music that he hears.... the cricket encourages him to listen to the jungle, and find his own music. Soon the giraffe is spinning and cartwheeling..... and loses all inhibitions now that no one is watching.... but actually all the other animals *are* watching and they declare it the best dancing they've seen. A lovely unusual tale encouraging children to be themselves and not constrained by others. Our daughter always squeals with delight and "he's dancing" as Gerald somersaults ! Definitely a classic.

This is a beautiful book about a Giraffe who can't dance like the other jungle animals and is mercilessly made fun of as a result!

Poor Gerald is known to be very clumsy and after a disastrous effort at the annual Jungle Dance he seeks solace and meets a cricket who give him some excellent advice. He ends up discovering he can dance in his own special way and all the other Jungle animals are impressed.

It's a great story about self-acceptance and shows that being different is sometimes even more wonderful that the norm. It also demonstrates that you can be capable of things that no one expects.

The rhyming prose are excellent to read out loud - they just roll off the tongue and I think my children find it easier to remain engaged thanks to the resultant melody.

The illustrations are great; my toddlers spend ages examining them and there is plenty of scope for vocabulary practice and discussion.

This is a fantastic addition to any book-shelf; not only a charming story with beautiful pictures but carries a far deeper and valuable lesson too. Young children may not grasp that completely but they will internalise the idea and carry it with them as they grow.

This a lovely well written story with brilliant illustrations that keep pre-school and early years children's attention!! Great rhyming in paragraphs..... it's about a cute giraffe called gerald who cannot dance cause of his Long legs. He is made fun of at the animal dance in front of all the animals..... this makes him sad until a grasshopper makes him realise it's ok to be different and he can find his own rthymn to make him dance. Another good story by this author to make Kids realise it's ok to be different from other kids!!great for pre-school and early years kids.

I have been reading this to my son since he was 10 months - he is now 18 months and this is still his favourite book. He loves the pictures of the animals and the colour.  I love the fact this book rhymes when you read it, the words flow, the story is lovely and you can put emotion in your voice when reading certain pages.  He picks out two story books each night and this one seems to be in his choice most nights of the week! I know it off by heart but I haven't grown tired of it yet.

This is a lovely book with a great undertone to it, if you can't do something at first keep trying.  I like to ask my son how he things Gerald is feeling when the other animals are laughing at him and try to get him to understand that words can sometimes be very mean.  I think the message behind this book is very important and put across in a very good way.  Great rhyming, and lovely illustrations.

Gerald is a giraffe who is very chumsy and thinks he can't dance. The other animals laugh at him but he is reminded that it's possible. Read to both of my children a fun catchy story you can nearly sing. Great illustrations and plenty for children to look for and start conversations.

This is a great story which rhymes all the way through. It's about a giraffe who can't dance like the other jungle animals and tries but is quite clumsy. He eventually finds a cricket who tells him he just needs to find his beat and the dancing will come. It is a book children will enjoy and relate to.

still a favourite of ours! This story is beautifully illustrated, it gives meaning to the phrase 'dance like no-one is watching'
I love books that teach a lesson and have a purpose, this is certainly on that list! The giraffe has his feelings hurt when he is unable to dance like the other animals, he soon finds his tune (and confidence) and is able to join in.

A must read for any young child! A beautifully illustrated story about a giraffe who doesn't think he can dance. He then believes in himself and finds he can dance! It is a lovely story that teaches children that you can do anything! We all love this book.

Gerald the tall, lanky giraffe desperately wants to join in with the formal dancing at the Jungle Dance.... but as soon as he tries the others laugh and make fun of him.... how does he deal with this? This is a lovely story that incorporates several dance forms including waltz, tango, Scottish reel and rock n roll. A rhyming story with superb illustrations and wonderfully funny too
