Wrap up warm and join little corgis Belle and Pip on a Christmas adventure in London! Belle LOVES the bustle of Christmas preparations at Buckingham Palace, but her family say she's in the way, and that Christmas is NOT for corgis! So Belle decides to slip out and explore London , where she's sure there will be Christmas sprit in abundance! But on the busy streets, Belle finds everything a bit too bright, a bit too noisy and FAR TOO LOUD!

Luckily, a streetwise puppy called Pip turns up and whisks Belle off on a wonderfully romantic whirl around the sights of London . All too soon it's time to head home, but when the couple finally work out how to get back into the palace . . . Pip disappears.

Will Belle ever see him again? Perhaps . . . with the help of a special royal couple , who might just bring Belle a wonderful Christmas surprise. For dog-lovers everywhere, this Lady and the Tramp -esque romp around London at Christmas is full of heart . . . and waggy tails!

A very Corgi Christmas appealed to all 3 of my children, they loved the dog theme and my older two had fun spotting the London landmarks littered throughout the beautiful illustrations in the book.
Belle the Corgi lives in Buckingham palace, she loves Christmas and goes on a trip around London.
It’s a lovely light hearted festive story, it has plenty of pictures to discuss with younger children and has simple enough wording for emerging readers to tackle themselves.

This gorgeous book was a huge hit with my children. Christmas and dogs have proved a guaranteed winner!
The story follows Belle, one of the Queen’s Corgis, as she embarks on an adventure round London at Christmas and meets a new friend who helps her when she’s feeling scared.
I love the message running throughout that Christmas is inclusive and for everyone (despite the Corgis ideas at the beginning!) There is a lot of kindness and friendship - not to mention a subtle cameo from a special lady.
The illustrations are bright and bold; they feel very cheerful and they’re a joy to look at. Both children really engaged with them and revisited the book independently to examine them again together. They suit the lively tale very well.
The language is simple but it’s a pleasure to read out loud. There’s plenty of dialogue to experiment with some doggy voices too!
The fact that it’s set around the royal dogs who live in Buckingham palace lent a real air of excitement and novelty to the tale for my kids. Especially when I explained they’re real Corgis living there with the Queen in Buckingham Palace! It was the basis for a very lively game of “Corgis”!
There is a lovely happy ending and sparked my son’s interest in what he would wish for.
It’s a heart-warming and magical read with a fantastic nod to our capital city (which alone sparked a lot of talk and interest). A must-read for the festive season and one we’ve already revisited daily. I enjoy this one as much as the children.

My son loved this book. This is a super cute Christmas book. It is beautifully illustrated, well written with just enough text on each page to keep hold of a toddlers attention. It’s lovely that it includes a few of London’s best loved landmarks in it as well. Highly recommend this book for the younger child.

This has been a beautiful book to share with my daughter.  She's enjoying Christmas and is starting to enjoy exploring the traditions of the season as it's the first year that she's been fully aware of what's going on.  Add to this the fact that she absolutely adores dogs, this book is completely made for her!  It's full of beautiful illustrations of dogs and a stunning representation of London at Christmas.
Belle, a small royal corgi, is excited about Christmas but has been told that it's not really a celebration for corgis. She takes herself off into London where she meets a streetwise pup called Pip who takes her on a festive adventure to explore the wonder of London at Christmastime.  As much as she loves spending time with Pip she realises that she doesn't want to be without her family so they try to find a way to get back into Buckingham Palace.  She manages to get back in but Pip has disappeared.  Will she ever see him again?
I can tell that this is going to be a festive favourite in our house- ready to bring out each year and read on the run up to Christmas.  The story is really lovely and full of the magic of Christmas- like a festive Lady and the Tramp.  Loretta Shauer's illustration are just adorable- she really captures the character of the canine characters!

This book appeals even without opening it. The cover illustration with it's bright Christmassy colours is eye-catching and this continues throughout the whole book, beautifully complementing the words.

The story of Belle, the royal corgi who wants to find out more about Christmas, is lovingly told and the occasional rhyming parts especially appealed to our reception class. The asked for the book over and over again.

This is a book to bring out every year!

I read this to my granddaughter who is 2 years old and is finding Christmas really exciting this year.  She loves dogs and anything to do with the Queen so thought this book would be perfect for her, and it proved to be just that.  The story is about Belle a corgi who lives in Buckingham Palace and Pip another corgi who lives on the streets of London. It is very Much like Lady and the Tramp and full of the magic of Christmas. The illustrations are great making this a book which can be brought out year after year as part of the family Christmas traditions.

A Very Corgi Christmas is a lovely story of a Christmas loving dog called Belle who discovers a new friend Pip on her adventures through the city of London. The children really enjoyed this book and loved how it was the story of some dogs as it is a fun way to tell the story and different from other Christmas books which tend to either follow Santa or Wintry animals. They liked how it was like discovering the things their pets get up to but on a grander scale. Having it set in London was a lovely aspect to the story as it showed the children a place very unlike where we live and was somewhere a couple of the children had visited and could share with us some of their stories from their time in the city. I like how the landmarks were all very much as realistic as possible in the illustrations and made them look like exciting places to visit by how much fun the dogs were having on their adventures. The children enjoyed watching the dogs trying to get back to the palace and all the fun and different ways they tried to make their entrance and were all hoping they'd make a safe return. The illustrations in the book are so nice and detailed and I think the addition of fun bright wintry pictures to replace the adverts on the screens and Christmas trees on the buses are nice festive touches to the images. The book is full of such beautiful and realistic images of the city that it's a nice introduction to the city for children. The characters are brilliant as the children really loved how it was based on dogs and it was great to see how their friendship grew throughout the book to a lovely surprise ending. A Very Corgi Christmas is a fantastic Christmas story that the children very much enjoyed, a great festive British read!

A Very Corgi Christmas is set in the iconic Buckingham Palace, to start with anyway. Belle the Corgi is unlike the other corgi's in her household because she absolutely adores Christmas! She loves it so much that she decides to venture out into the unknown to discover it... Belle isn't used to exploring London on her own, but luckily she comes across a friendly dog called Pip who is happy to show her around the sparkling spectacle of London during the holidays. Together, Belle and Pip also have to find a clever way back into the palace without alerting the guards. It was lovely to start introducing some Christmas magic to the class today... I especially loved their guesses as to what Belle's surprise present might be - "a robot," "a big piano," "a ladybird," I'll let you find out for yourselves :)
The illustrations were also interesting discussion starters to find out about the childrens' previous experiences of London... I was surprised to find out how many children recognised some of the landmarks featured in the book such as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace.

This is a lovely book all about the excitement of Christmas and my daughter loves the main character, Belle. It’s nice to recognise London landmarks and as she gets older I’m sure it’ll be a nice book to teach her about the capital as well. It’s not too long so holds my 1 year olds attention well and there’s lots to see in the illustrations.

Belle the young corgi escapes Buckingham Palace to enjoy the buzz and twinkling lights of London at Christmas. She soon befriends a stray streetwise dog Pip.... who willingly acts as her guide... and she's sad to leave him behind when she returns to the Palace. Wouldn't seeing him again be the best Christmas present? A well illustrated simple tale that would make a nice addition to a younger readers' Christmas library. Sophie found it a bit predictable and lacking in story, given she's so familiar with Donaldson's Tabby McTat which has such a similar premise.
