Dr. Seuss Series

American author and illustrator Dr. Seuss took the world by storm back in the 1950s with his breakthrough children’s book, the wonderfully silly The Cat in the Hat. Since then, Dr Seuss books have delighted generations of kids (and adults) the world over.

Few authors can be described as both inspiring and absurd in the same breath, but Dr. Seuss is certainly not your average writer. His fabulous illustrations, clever rhymes, toe-tapping rhythms and silly tongue twisters make his books unique.

His most famous books have been adapted into countless films and stage plays and continue to sell millions of copies each year. Some of the most popular Dr Seuss films include How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Lorax and The Cat in the Hat. Theodor Seuss Geisel wrote and illustrated over 60 books in his lifetime under the pen name Dr Seuss and many of them are still firm favourites with families the world over today.

The weird and wonderful world of Dr Seuss’ characters is bound to charm children with their love of the absurd and, despite his famous statement that he never wrote stories with a moral in mind (“Kids can see a moral coming a mile off”), almost all of his stories have a life lesson hidden in them somewhere.

Dr Seuss’ poems are incredibly silly and filled with tongue-twisters, but the rhymes are also great for kids learning to read and many books are suitable for young readers to read alone.

There is no particular order to read the books in and they can be enjoyed at all ages. After all, you are never too old to be silly!

We love The Cat in the Haand Green Eggs and Ham for young children and The Lorax for older children with its environmental message. There are also plenty of Dr Seuss collections with all the popular stories. The full Dr Seuss book list is below.

Keep in mind one of our favourite Dr Seuss quotes:

“The more that you read the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” (Dr Seuss. I Can Read With My Eyes Shut)
