My son hasn’t put this down since it arrived - he’s obsessed with it!  A cleverly-devised book, it inspires children to learn more about science through the medium of ‘magic’. As other reviewers have mentioned, the instructions are clear and easily understood and you don’t need to break the bank in order to obtain the items needed for each experiment.  Hugo has already made a list of the experiments he wants to conduct during the Easter break and intends to then set up his favourites in school as part of his weekly Show & Tell (not quite sure what the teachers will have to say about that!).  In all, a brilliant book which encourages curiosity and engagement.

This collection of "magic tricks" that really examples of scientific concepts is a lot of fun. These are the types of projects we would do at our local makerspace that don't feel like learning. There are a wide variety of concepts covered in this book, and I like that the sidebar explains the science behind each "trick." It reminds me a bit of the TV show "Outrageous Acts of Science." The excellent anecdotal information added in throughout the book is a fun way to increase interest as well.

This is such an amazing book. It presents some really mind-blowing experiments that are easy to do and require little material; and it's the sort of things that can be found in any house. By "disguising" the experiments as magic tricks, it also adds a twist to the activities it proposes. Not to mention that these experiments are based on some solid mathematical and scientific theories (the geometrical properties of a Möbius strip being a prime example). My son was super excited about the results of the magic tricks and has been practicing some of them to show to his friends.

If you want to get your children excited about STEM subjects, this is the book!

This book is a winner for kids and parents, it makes science so much fun and the kids think they are preforming magic whilst discovering new things about science.
The book has excellent pictures and diagrams throughout, the explanations are clear and the experiments use things commonly used around the house so you don’t need to go out shopping for expensive supplies.

We won this book through Toppsta to pass onto my son's primary school but we couldn't resist having a look first. This book is aimed at younger readers, probably aged 5 to 10 (my children are 11 and 13) but we all loved it. Its different to other science books because on each page the experiments are more like magic tricks with the science explanation (how it happens) at the bottom. We liked it because the experiments were done with everyday things you would have at home and also because with the exception of a few bits the experiments/magic could be done by kids alone.

In between all these experiments are science wonders around the world that are natural occurrences and there are great pictures and explanations to go with them as well as pages that explain how amazing things are done like fortune telling or Houdini's illusions.

This book is bright and colourful and easy to follow as well as interesting and had my children been a bit younger we would have spent more time engaging in the experiments. I am sure this book would be an asset to any school or home library
