We love lift the flap books and are big Usborne fans. The illustrations are really nice and the flaps are very nice displayed keeping my son's attention all the way through the book. I liked how it show various types of germs: bacteria, virus and so on and with the example of chickenpox that my son already had and can relate to. My son's favourite page was the one showing the ways of getting the germs and how to avoid them. I liked the one where they show how to "fight" germs and how the body protects itself from them coming into the body. But the truth is my son didn't really get it, it's quite a difficult thing to try to explain really, that the germs are these "things" that go into our body and then we get sick, and I was hoping the book would make him understand it better, but unfortunately I don't think it made a difference in terms of that... It is a book he enjoyed reading and lifting the flaps, but we'll have to come back to it again at a later moment and then I think he might understand more of it.
Update: my son is now 4.5 years old and we've read this book again and now he seems to understand much more of it and we read it as a preparation for his vaccines he had to take and this worked so well! He didn't even cry and then afterwards we read the book again and he said in the vaccines part: I like this vaccine thing! This all because now he thinks he's super strong and that he can fight against bad things! And he's like the superheroes shown in the book. So I had thought this book was 4 stars but it's a 5 stars one, it just depends on the timing and when your kid is ready for it and I would say, give the vaccine when they're more ready to understand it, it was magical!
