"A true genius . . . Roald Dahl is my hero" - David Walliams "So Matilda's strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone." Matilda is the world's most famous bookworm, no thanks to her ghastly parents. Her father thinks she's a little scab. Her mother spends all afternoon playing bingo. And her headmistress, Miss Trunchbull? She's the worst of all. She's a big bully, who thinks all her pupils are rotten and locks them in the dreaded Chokey. Despite these beastly grownups trying to push her down, Matilda is an extraordinary girl with a magical mind.

And she's had enough. So all the terrible adults had better watch out, because she's going to teach them a lesson they'll never forget! Now you can listen to MATILDA and other Roald Dahl audiobooks read by some very famous voices, including Kate Winslet, David Walliams and Steven Fry - plus there are added squelchy soundeffects from Pinewood Studios!

I love the book Matilda because it's by my favourite author Roald Dahl.My favourite character is Matilda and her powers, such as controlling things with her eyes.I also like the part where Matilda plays tricks on her parents and Mrs Trunchbull. This story has a very happy ending, because Matilda moves in with Miss Honey.

This story is the author Roald Dahl at his best. Matilda is one of my all-time favourites.

Matilda discovers her love of books and by the age of three, has taught herself to read. At four she has read all the children’s stories in the library. She is oblivious to her brilliance and her parents are less than encouraging. “What’s wrong with the telly, for heaven’s sake?” her father demands, while her mother insists that brains never got a woman anywhere in life.

It is not until Matilda attends school and meets the lovely Miss Honey that anyone begins to nurture her talent. But things don’t become easier for Matilda there. She must survive a place ruled by the frightening and larger-than-life Miss Trunchbull who has Matilda in her sights, insisting she is “a nasty little worm”.

Within the familiar schoolground setting, Roald Dahl takes his readers into the world of one little girl enduring cruelty, loneliness and an overwhelming power to teach lessons to the adults in her life. The combination of speaking directly to the reader and crawling into the minds of his characters, is classic Dahl. Only he could be responsible for dreaming up the amazing tales of disciplinary proceedings at Crunchem Hall Primary School.

This story is beautifully heartwarming; a surprising mix of humour, adventure and mystery. And, as with any Dahl story, Matilda provides a strong message to children: you can do it.

Oh, plus a message to grown-ups – treat your children nicely, as they’re not as innocent, naive or helpless as you may imagine!

This fantastic story is about a girl called Matilda who reads lots of books. When she goes to school this makes her very clever. At school the headteacher is Miss Trunchball and she is really horrible and strict. Matilda plays some tricks on her with her magic powers. I really enjoyed this book!

Classic Roald Dahl, a must for all children. I read to this my son when he was 4 and he really enjoyed it, he was particularly into Dahl at the time and this was the third or fourth that we read. Dahl brings his characters to life in such a visceral fashion, he writes people so well and with such relish.

Oh my, where to start with a story like Matilda?! She is an absolute hero of ours! Matilda is a young girl that doesn't fit in with her family. Where they like to watch television and take part in less then savoury business, Matilda likes to read and devours any book that she takes a shine to! She's an incredible character for teaching children that by reading and educating yourself, you are developing your own 'magic' because knowledge is power! We have several copies of this because it is a classic that will never age and a favourite of most children I know. I hope that everyone gets to read this at some point because Matilda is a character that will stay with you.
Some children dislike Miss Trunchbull's discipline 'techniques' when they read it because they can seem cruel, but in true Roald Dahl fashion, they are written very visually and to show how different a character she is in comparison to the lovely Miss Honey.

I remember reading this as a child and have recently read it to my boy. It is still a great book. My boy still talks about what it would be like to move objects with your mind. Roald Dahl has a great imagination and the silliness is fab and appeals to kids.

I liked the headteacher and how menacing she is. This book in my opinion is an adventure story. This book is a great book because it makes you feel empathy for some characters and despise different ones.
