Phizzwhizzing new cover look and branding for the World's NUMBER ONE Storyteller! On a dark, silvery moonlit night, Sophie is snatched from her bed by a giant. Luckily it is the Big Friendly Giant, the BFG, who only eats snozzcumbers and glugs frobscottle. But there are other giants in Giant Country. Fifty foot brutes who gallop far and wide every night to find human beans to eat. Can Sophie and her friend the BFG stop them? Let's hope so - otherwise the next child a gruesome giant guzzles could be YOU. Also look out for new Roald Dahl apps in the App store and Google Play- including the disgusting TWIT OR MISS! and HOUSE OF TWITS inspired by the revolting Twits.

This book and author are a favorite of mine and my 12 year old daughter. The BFG is an absolutely delightful book about a little Girl named Sophie who is taken from her bed by a Giant.
Lucky for her he's the most gentlest, kindest but daftest Giant she could meet.
It's full of weird and wonderful concoctions.
Ever heard of a snozzcumber? Neither had Sophie until she met the BFG. She has to persuade Queen Elizabeth to help her get rid of the bad giants.

I've just see the new movie so I decided to reread the book.
The BFG is a fantastic story.  It's scary and fun and adventurous everything I like.  I really want to taste frobscottle and my mum says cucumbers are snozcuumbers (she really doesn't like them).
I would love to chase dreams and we have done some of the dream jar trail in London already this summer.
Roald Dahl is one of my favourite authors.

My favourite book is the BFG,because sometimes it makes me wonder that there is no big, friendly gient,   there is only a small, little girl.
I LOVE the part when the gient fallen asleep ,and a magic trumpet came into his ear and made him nice.

I wanted to watch the BFG film but mummy said it would be fun to read the book first. i was able to read most of it myself to me and mummy but some of the words were really hard to read! The BFG used funny words. I liked that he called people 'beans' he was trying to say human beings. My favourite bit was when the BFG made people drink the frobscuttle. It had bubbles that went down and that made everyone do smelly green trumps! I laughed a lot in the book. But I was also quite scared about the other giants as they were nasty. I didn't like the way the were nasty to the BFG. This made me sad.
Mum
I've been waiting a long time for Scarlett to pick up the BFG. As one of my favorite books as a child I have been desperate to rekindle to story with my first born child! After seeing a trailer for the BFG  Scarlett wanted to watch the film. I promised her we would watch the film but we would need to read the book first to get an idea of what might happen.
It was as fun as i had always imagined it to be. Talking and laughing about the BFG's interpretation on words and how he muddles them up, exploring the ideas of dreams and how they can be put  into children's minds whilst they sleep. Scarlett tho roughly enjoyed the book and we are going to get the film when it is released to DVD, hopefully in time for Christmas!

We were given a box set of Dahl books and this is one of our favourites. I didn't read any Dahl as a child and I'm really enjoying reading them to my five year old. We starting reading chapter books just before she turned 5 and she really enjoys it.  The BFG is a lovely story but has some slightly scary parts when the other giants are involved. But it gave us the opportunity to talk about what's real and what's pretend. I'm hoping my daughter will want to read this to herself when she's older.

It was based on a good setting and I liked that every country had a different taste of child. I thought the characters were funny especially that the BFG could not speak properly. It was really funny when the drunk people fell into the pit at the end. I  really enjoyed this story.

I love Roald Dahl, so chose to read this to my boys aged 9 and 7 as a bedtime story. They really enjoyed it, and loved the BFG, they even made up there own silly words like him after reading it. We read it over a few nights, the boys always eagerly requested one more chapter when I stopped reading. The boys were interested in the storyline, and knew it wasn't real so we're not scared by any aspect of the story although sensitive or younger readers may be scared by the human bean eating giants. We all loved the illustrations, and my younger son loved the ears that came with this book. This is such a classic read that I remember reading as a child, and am glad I have shared this story with my children.

I read this book to my 6 year old. I was a little worried about reading it because he is quite sensitive but once we started he was hooked. He absolutely loved the words the BFG invented! And of course, his favourite chapter was the one about whizzpopping!!!  Not only did he love the story but it seemed to really bring English alive for him, especially spelling. I've now read this twice to him. We had the colour illustrated version and I can't recommend it highly enough.

My son reads this himself now (he is just six), and we first read it together when he was a young five. He loves every element of the book, particularly the made up language. Rarely a day goes past without sort of quote from the book. I love it as an parent as it's a good, safe book for a young reader to get into (no scary pre-teen content such as death or gangs).

This book was as amazing as I remembered from my childhood. It kept my children engrossed from start to finish with the descriptive text and characters. The only issue I had was getting my brain around the language used in the book. They had the BFG on DVD from Christmas but would not watch it until we had read the book!

The BFG is still one of the best books ever written. I think it will a classic forever.
Little Sophie is snatched away from her orphanage in the middle of the night by a giant but he's not like the others. An exciting story with heartfelt and scary moments.

I tried to read this book to myself as a small girl and quickly gave up when I got to the tricky words (clearly before phonics!!).  What a joy to read it as an adult to my 6yr old.  I loved seeing his excitement escalate as Sophie and the BFG formulate and then carry out their plan to vanquish their enemies.  It's scary in parts, definitely nightmare-inducing for a child with a vivid imagination.  But worth it to enjoy Roald Dahl's twists on the English language ('two rights don't make a left'!) and to enter into his world of giants, frobscottle and a little heroine who even manages to engage the Queen's services!

Wonderful story one of my favourites. Love Roald Dahl but this is one of his best. The BFG uses his own words that are very funny Although there are some bad giants the book is not frightening. Great for imagination, thinking of how small things would be to a giant.

A children's classic. I loved this book and my daughter loves this book. There are some scary moments in there, so not for the younger children. Roald Dahls literary style is unmistakable, he seems to speak to children in a way they understand. It's a story about a giant who befriends a young orphan girl. Highly recommended!

I had seen the film and really enjoyed it, so when I saw the book in the supermarket I wanted to read it. It such an exciting book, theres lot of adventure and I love the relationship between Sophie and the BFG. There are funny bits, and scary bits. I wasn't scared about the giants that want to eat children, but some other children might get scared at those bits. It's a book I will read over and over again

I loved this book! I am a big Roald Dahl fan and this is one of my favourites! I liked the way the story began, with Sophie in the orphanage. The way the witching hour is described is really creepy!! I was a bit scared when she got snatched but was really glad when the BFG turned out to be nice. I liked the fact she was somewhere nicer than the horrible orphanage. I didn't like the other giants though! They all seemed vile to me and  I would be very scared if I met one!

My favourite bits of the book were when: Sophie and the BFG were whizpopping! I also loved it when the BFG and the Queen met, I thought it was really sweet and funny. I also really liked the ending, how the giants were captured and then put in a big hole! They really deserved it for being so "rotsom" as the BFG would say!

I liked the way the BFG talked, sometimes I knew what he meant straight away - other times me and mum would sit and talk about what he might mean! I also really liked the pictures, they were funny and sad and sometimes a bit scary! I liked the way the BFG gives children nice dreams too, and I loved it when he told Sophie all about the dreams he had caught!!

p.s snozzcumbers sound awful to eat!!

As with all Roald Dahl books, this one didn't disappoint. I loved that the BFG was friendly unlike all the other giants. The BFG captures dreams in bottles for other kids to dream and takes a little girl called Sophie who was an orpan back to his cave in giant country but he was kind and looked after her! I liked that he had his own funny language which was called gobblefunk. My favourite part of the book was when the BFG and Sophie drank a fizzy drink and whizzpopped! haha. My sister read the book after me but she thought the nasty giants who ate human beans were too scary!

I enjoyed the way Roald Dahl makes the book exciting and impossible to put down. All of the other Giant's like to tease Children and give them nightmares but the BFG gives them good dreams. Sophie is a little girl who lives in an orphanage and wakes one night to find the BFG staring at her. Sophie is startled, but soon discovers the stories behind the other bigger giants and works with the BFG to overcome them.

Roald Dahl was recently voted the best children's author of all time, ahead of Shakespeare, Austin, Tolkin, Bronte etc, and its clear to see why. Me and my husband read his books growing up and now we are reading them with our children. We love seeing them being so engaged and the way they react to the stories.

We took my son to watch "The BFG" last year when it came out in cinema and he loved it so we thought it would be good to get him the book to read. We have only just started to read it and he loves the funny voices we put on when we read the BFG's conversations. It's a lovely story about a little girl in an orphanage who gets kidnapped by a kind giant and shows how their relationship blossoms. Definitely worth a read with children as young as 5.

We won this in a Toppsta giveaway (thank you!)  and although I thought it might have been too old for my 5yo he enjoyed it. I made sure he understood it was only a story & always finished on a good note just to make sure he wasn't scared. A story of friendship,  we liked the funny made up words the BFG uses and could be silly by changing our voices and acting it out for extra fun! Nice to share a book I enjoyed in my childhood with him and I'm sure he will enjoy it all over again when he can read to that level by himself.
