Introduce young children to the concept of taking away with this delightful interactive book. Children can count the animals in each scene, then move the slider so one disappears and see how many animals there are now. Each scene shows up to five animals, from buzzing bees to splashing frogs and a cat creeping out in the night.

Amazing book to teach kids about subtraction. The pictures are lovely, and the slide action keeps kids engaged and visually teaches kids what happens when you take one away. The story is written in rhyme which makes it a treat to read.

Excellent and interactive way to introduce counting and subtraction to younger children. 3 year old nephew loved the slots, as did 4 year old niece. The rhyming words helped with counting sequence. Bright illustrations. Entertaining.

This was a great way to introduce my preschooler (just turned 4) to the concept of subtraction. He really liked being able to slide the pages to make the animals/objects appear and disappear. Lovely bright colours and good quality board book pages.

This is a lovely book that introduces children to subtracting through sliding the picture so you can see animals disappearing.  A great way with rhyme and illustrations it really gets children thinking and actually shows them when one thing is removed how many are left. Highly recommended.

A nice bright sturdy book that my daughter loves to play with. Even though it has moving parts this book would take some effort to damage. My 3 year old is just getting interested in maths and counting so this is a great start to taking away. Just getting to see the symbols and vocabulary involved i's brill. She loves the pictures and as it's not a wordy book she is quite happy to read it to herself as well as with me.

A fun colourful book, fantastic for introducing subtraction to young children. The interactive element of sliding the page to reveal the answer keeps children's attention as does the rhyming story. A good sturdy book and fun to read.

My 3yr old loved this book. She loves counting so she enjoyed this. Its such a good idea for a book, with the sliders, for doing simple subtractions. My daughter really liked moving the sliders and the actual visualisation of the insect/animal going away, helps them to understand the taking away. It is a fun way of taking away. Suitable fo nursery/reception aged children.

Read this to a 5 year old and a 2 1/2 your old and the youngest enjoyed it the most. It was too easy for the eldest. Nice book though, good story that rhymes with nice illustrations and can interact with the sliders.

This is a great introductory book for little ones to learn about subtracting. The rhyming text and sweet pictures make it interesting and the the chunky nature of the book means it's great for little ones to hold by themselves. The only reason I haven't given it five stars is that in our copy the sliding mechanism moves by itself if you tilt the pages.

Introduction to subtraction - board book format counting down from 5 to 0 in increments of 1 - shown visually through the removal of one object using a sliding mechanic. It's main difference from one of the standard counting books (where one object is covered each page) is that : i) only starts at 5 (most counting books seem to start at 10) and ii) it shows the "proper" equation on each page, with the "solution" part of the reveal mechanic when the child moves the slide. I liked the concept, but felt there was not enough "material" covered for the target audience (someone like my daughter who will start school in September - I was expecting 2 of something to be removed at some point etc) particularly for the cost of the book (£10)..... yet it went too far/too formal in introducing the "equation" for someone younger.
