This is a beautiful clever educational fun little book. My little one loves lifting the flaps and we sing happy birthday and she sings and claps along. A great day time book to read together. I love all the detail and the counting sections, she will gain more from this as she grows older. the flaps are easy for her to use and it's a board book so easy for her to hold herself and turn the pages. It's fun guessing who/what is behind the flap, we liked that part of the book. A fun little story from our now favourite author.

A lovely story with beautiful illustrations. My eldest loves lifting the flaps, while my youngest turns the pages. The repetition of "1, 2, 3" encouraged my toddler to knock on the doors before discovering who was inside. The illustration with the oven is particularly enjoyed; my oldest opens the oven door and says, "Mmm!" while rubbing his belly when he sees the pie! The pages are sturdy, as are the flaps, so even after lots of reading the book is still in good condition.

Our favourite so far from the acorn wood series! My little boy is 2 and he won't sit through a really long story just yet, I find that these are a nice length of book and he loves the lift the flap books. The nice with thing the acorn wood stories is that the characters become familiar. It does also try to include education aspects with counting.

This is a favourite at the moment! It's such a lovely book. My little boy is nearly two and this is perfect for him as he loves the lift the flap books and it's a short story - he won't sit still for longer stories just yet. The illustrations are lovely too as he loves to point to things and tell me what they are in the book. Eg square, circle, flowers!

We always read this book with Fox's Socks (also from the Acorn Wood series). Georgie loves recognising the characters and finding them behind the flaps.
Her favourite part is shouting "Happy Birthday Bear" at the end!
I like that it begins to introduce counting to 3 in a fun 'real life' way.

My son enjoys this story. He is really into flaps and this is a great way to start learning to count to three (with the bear posting 3 letters) it features lots of characters, which we already know from other Acorn Wood books and has a great surprise at the end when we shout "Happy Birthday". And the best part is the laugh it gives me when we get to the last page and I got a little confused by the picture. (What I thought was a Mohawk is a Squirrel tail!)

All the books from this series never disappoint. It's a great little book to read and interact with during the day with little ones.

The story is a good short length, the rhyming text very nice to read and the lift the flaps are durable and stand up to toddler fingers well! Of course the illustrations are lovely too with characters following through the books in the series. This book in particular, starts to introduce numbers and counting in a lovely way, children are learn without even realising it! And there is a fun little surprise at the end. Great book!

We love this book.  The characters flow through the four Acorn Wood books, so Jess 'knows' them all and recognises them from book to book.  It helps with her counting (up to three) as she keeps track of the letters which Bear sends to his friends to invite them to his birthday party.  (A shame that he has to make his own cake, though!)    We have the board versions of these books, and the only downside is that some of the flaps aren't sturdy enough to stand up to an enthusiastic 1 year old (now that she's 2 she's much less excitable!).  We love the books - as with most by this author and illustrator - and would recommend them to anyone.

This is a beautifully illustrated book with flaps on each page for your child to open as you read. The story is of postman bear who writes letters to his friends and delivers each one to them. Each page tells the story through the detailed illustrations with a few words that make it easy for a younger child to follow. My son loves turning the thick pages and opening the flaps as I read the story, to find what's hidden beneath them! The story is written beautifully and each pages rhymms, giving it a lovely flow. My 19 month boy is developing a love of books and this is certainly a favourite for him.     I highly recommend this book!

A lovely book that my 3 year old loves. He can't wait to open the flaps to discover what's happening on each page. He loves the rhyming words and reads the book with me saying the words he remembers.

I like that it doesn't use too many words per page.

We really enjoy reading this book together. It has a lovely story, beautiful illustrations and flaps to open and discover what is going on behind. Each page gives plenty to talk about and discover. The characters are lovely. A really relatable sorry as Bear invites his friends to a birthday party and names a cake, then they arrive with presents for the party. The board book format means my little one enjoys turning the pages and the flaps seem to be fairly durable. A delightful book.

We have all four books in the 'Tales from Acorn Wood' lift-the-flap series and this is our least favourite.  Although it is beautifully illustrated and follows a similar format to the others the story is a bit too simple. Also, under one of the flaps there is writing (it's a party invitation) rather than a picture which doesn't mean anything to a one-year-old.  Overall it is still a lovely series of books.
