The Lonely Planets Kids series is outstanding, and I have yet to see a book from it that is not excellent. This one is no exception, and does not disappoint. What makes this different from other books in the series is that instead of teaching about countries around the world, it focuses on what you can find right on your doorstep. It is a small hardback activity book, a perfect mixture of size and sturdiness to pop in your bag and carry around with you. I would estimate that there are more than 50 different imaginative and creative activities to inspire children to engage in their immediate world. The activities instead observing nature and urban activities, and encourage use of all senses - can you draw the view from your window? What would you like the view to be in the future? What sounds can you hear?

This is a great book that will spark lots of ideas and feelings, and is one that has the capacity to last a whole summer (if not more) and provide a beautiful record of my child's world at this point in his life.

It is a fairly safe bet that any book produced by Lonely Planet is going to be good and this is no exception.
It is packed with a huge variety of fun activities that will keep children entertained for hours on end. It caters for all environments so any child will be able to do some pages at home, and then is an ideal size to take in the car on journeys or for holidays which may be in different environments.
Lots of vocabulary is introduced throughout the book too.
It is also a great size (A5) so easy to transport.
What a great win!! Thanks

Absolutely perfect activity book for a bit older children. We got this for our year 1 son as he can now independently read and it'll be spot on to keep him busy during longer holidays rather than just sitting in front of a gaming console. Plenty of activities to do and easy enough for a 6 year old to read.

This is a good quality book, with so much to do. Something different on every page. Will keep my little boy busy. We liked the bit where you had to find things that start with different letters. Overall a great book.

This book is amazing. It has a elastic ribbon to keep the book together which makes it look cool. There is so much to do in this book, I especially like the weather watch page. I have been making my own weather station out of a plastic bottle and catching the rain.  I also like the page on different clouds. There is a page to make notes on a wildlife watch and a page where you can stick different leaves. Everytime I look in the book I find something really good to do.

I am going to save this book for the Summer holidays as there is so much to do. It is a great book that teaches children that there are things to see and do right outside their own front/back door. It is more of a journal than a book at bedtime read. My four year old twins were very excited at all the things to do and pages to fill in. A great fun journal with hours of activities for school age kids to enjoy.

This book has been wonderful for both of our boys and their outdoor learning. They enjoy our walks so much more as they can identify things more and amuse themselves with games, tricks and jokes. Really opened their eyes. A great evening read for the lighter nights.

About Nicola Baxter

Hans Christian Andersen, the Danish storyteller, was born in 1805. Although he was the son of a poor shoemaker, he longed to make his living by writing.
