Get ready to explore the city in a whole new way. This innovative book for younger readers is packed with city facts, loads of flaps to lift, and unfolding pages to see inside buildings and under the streets. Children aged 5+ can learn about skyscrapers, subway systems and stinky sewers. Discover where people live and peek behind closed doors to see what's going on in houses and apartments, or why not find out about what goes on underneath the streets you walk on every day? Each page is stylishly illustrated by James Gulliver Hancock, creator of the All The Buildings That I've Drawn So Far series (Universe Publishing) and there are loads of quirky details to spot. How many giant cowboy hats can you find through the book? Created in consultation with Jill Sterrett, lecturer with the department of Urban Planning at the University of Washington. Contents :

The boy says this book is awesome and he wants to read it over and over again. He loves the flaps and that the pages open out and it is full of interesting facts. His only criticism is that there aren't very many pages and he would like a book 2! It obviously left him hungry for more!!

This book really is awesome.
My son loves it, it's a huge solid book and has so many facts within it. It's full of lots of informative information about cities and how everything works to make the world around us run smoothly.
The little flaps are great too and make the nook more interesting.

An excellent, informative book. In terms of format, it is similar to the See Inside Usborne books. However, unlike the Usborne books, this has quite thin cardboard pages, almost verging on a thick paper. My son loved looking at the brightly coloured pages with me. It is an interesting read. His favourite part was the futuristic garden cities.

Our little boy loved this book. It was exceptionally informative and went into great detail around the inner workings of the city. The lift the flaps are a great was to engage your little one and keep them entertained. This book would be great for a project but certainly isn't bedtime reading. Some of the americanisms confused us slightly so beware of this. Overall fantastic book.

This book was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. I liked that at the start it was about the birth of a city. It was all ver factual. At some points I started to get a little bored but then I saw a flap and when you open it so much more appears! I think my favourite pages were the page about HIGH-RISE LIFE. I would hate to be a window cleaner in a block of flats!  and another favourite was CITIES OF THE FUTURE which was really quite interesting. Its amazing too see what it might be like in a few hundred years. I really enjoyed this book and will be re-reading plus I would definitely recommend to ages 8 plus.

We're really enjoying this book and my son has it in permanent residence by his bed, just in case he needs to look at it. The city of the future most intrigued him and he loved the fold out pages. The size and weight of paper make it feel like a book which should be treasured - a real treat. It compares to the Usborne See Inside range but possibly feels a bit more grown up as it is less colourful and due to the style of the illustrations. The use of American vocabulary was something I didn't like (and required explanation) although this didn't really impact on my son's enjoyment of the book at all. Overall, very informative.

Jack loved this book.  He enjoys books with facts and with flaps and this has both.  Each page covers a different aspect of the City and he enjoyed matching up the pages to places he knew about in London.  This is a similar book to the Usborne See Inside books of which we have many and this is loved equally.  We are looking forward to finding anymore books in the series.

This book is big! It has a lot of detail and lots of facts. You can dip in and out of it and read something new. I live in the countryside and I was very interested in this book as it gave alot of information about cities. I liked learning about all the things that happen above and below ground. My favourite page was the last page. This was about future cities. It amazed me because there was a sort of dome sky scraper build out of solar panels. It was very different to cities of today. I hope the author writes more.

Beautifully illustrated with lots of flaps and fold out pages. The book is full of information - so much so that I think it overwhelmed my boys (8 and 4) - some of the writing is quite small.  They enjoyed flicking through the pages and looking through the pictures but weren't interested in picking it up again. This would be a great resource for a school project so we'll be donating to school where it will hopefully be appreciated!

Read to ben 8 and Oliver 6, my boys didn't really enjoy this book as it's more a information book about how the city works and what goes on. It had a lot of info about literally everything in it to what's on the pavement to the roof of houses there's also flaps to open and find out what's behind the walls which is interesting. A good book just not for my boys.
