Every GIRL should have this book on the bookshelf and read it every night to remind herself that she can achieve extraordinary things!  It makes an excellent introduction to the lives of some very interesting and inspiring women from History, Music, Science, Politics or Literature many of whom may be entirely unknown to a reader. It's perfect for younger readers. The book is beautifully designed and is full of some amazing women biographies. My daughter recognised J.K Rowling - she likes to write stories herself so she definitely inspired her!!

All this amazing women come from such different places, affected our world in different ways - so I'm sure there is someone here to interest every child. It's a book I would have enjoyed poring over at age 9 or 10.
I highly recommend this book!

Another absolutely superb book about strong women! The illustrations are fantastic and the selection has thoughtfully been collated. I liked that this book offered a few more names off the 'regular' list of strong women and gave me some different people to read about.

With this book I really like that the women have been categorised by the field they worked in and it makes finding your favourites super easy.

The illustrations were superb, very beautiful and really add a lovely element to the facts.

On a side note i did notice some mistakes in the book but i would imagine they are just an oversight.

This amazing book contains the inspirational stories of 50 women who set out to do something better. Divided into eight sections: Art, History, Politics, Science, Sports, Music Film, TV, Literature and Business, there is something to capture everyone’s interests. Their histories, stories, and achievements will capture the hearts of readers ages ten to adult.

Excellent for all ages, much less Western Hemisphere ethnocentric than too many are.

From the class:
We are a class of nine to eleven year-olds. We have really enjoyed  reading this book. It was s free-choice book for spare moments of time when we had time to choose what to read.  It was very popular with the girls in our class but some of the boys enjoyed it too. We really liked the fact that the famous people in here are so varied: some are modern women and others are people from history.  We found out about some people that we knew nothing about and new facts about some that we already knew. This is a great book for school.  Each section is short and quick to read so we can easily dip into it when it's our turn to read it.

From the teacher:
The book is lovely to look at.  It has interesting, colourful illustrations and the style of writing is also engaging. Pupils who find reading challenging enjoyed looking through and talking about the people that they recognised but more advanced readers were engaged by the book and spent a great deal of time reading through each person.  The choice of subjects for the chapters was varied: there's an interesting and diverse mix of well-known and more unusual people. The book was a popular choice and several months on,  is still regularly chosen - it is rarely left on the shelves.

This book would have been five stars but we noticed an error: Queen Elizabeth I did not become Queen 'upon Henry's death in 1559'. It made us question whether the facts for other women are all correct.

Having stated that, it's a really interesting book and entertaining to learn about women who are important for a huge variety of reasons: photography, singing, dancing, politics... it's great that there is a mixture of people who we have heard of and some who are new to us. We liked the illustrations and layout. The information is interesting and the text is challenging enough to create discussions.
