Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

These new editions of the classic and internationally bestselling, multi-award-winning series feature instantly pick-up-able new jackets by Jonny Duddle, with huge child appeal, to bring Harry Potter to the next generation of readers. It's time to PASS THE MAGIC ON ...

This was my first time reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, i thought the story was magical but the writing was a bit clunky- you can definitely tell that this was the first book in the series and i'm hoping that the written style improves into the next book.

That being said, i can not fault the story once it really got going. It was a good solid mixture of magic, mystery and a story of friendship and rivalry.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a perfect book for about 6+ years. It was about a boy called Harry who learns he was a wizard! He goes to a magic school calked Hogwarts and learns magic. Voldemort, (who had tried to kill him once which gave him a lightning bolt shaped scar) starts trying to kill him again. This book is amazing which was why I gave it 5 stars!

I initially read this book as a 15 year old who never picked up a book. I have since re-read this book as an adult and it certainly reaffirmed a love of reading for me. I went on to read the whole series and think that everyone should read the first book at least once before forming an opinion on harry potter the books are certainly very different to the films.

I've lost count of the number of times I've read this. The plot bounces along at a terrific pace and served as an ideal introduction to a much larger world explored over the seven novels. The characters are well rounded despite the enormous cast, and is easily relatable to a wide range of age groups. I would be happy to read this to my 7 year old, and fully expect him to pick it up in his own time in future.

This book transports you to a truly magical world. It leaves children (and adults) everywhere longing for their Hogwarts letter to arrive. The characters are interesting and well portrayed.
The settings are brought to life by fabulous descriptions. It is the first in a magical series which is so popular in our household.

A wonderful introduction to the world of Harry Potter. This book whisks you away into a world of magic and excitement as you meet Professor Minerva McGonagall, a female teacher at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that can transform into a cat, Rubeus Hagrid, the half-giant gatekeeper of Hogwarts and Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts and widely acknowledged by most to be the most powerful wizard in the world. Cower before the might of Lord Voldemort, the evil sorcerer that killed Harry's parents. A brilliant book. You haven't lived until you have read Harry Potter.

Harry Potter is one of the few series that have been turned into decent films.

I didn't want to read the Harry Potter collection but I am so glad I did.  I got this book for may birthday and it took me a while to pick it up and start reading but I loved it.  The way the characters are described and the thing they do are not like normal life.  This book takes you on an adventure in your own imagination.  I couldn't stop reading this book and when I finished I couldn't wait to start the next one.

This is the first Harry potter book in the series, and when my son decided he wanted to read it I wasn't sure if we were going to enjoy it. We have been listening to it as an Audio Book, and it had us all hooked as a family so much so that we listened to the whole book in just over a week. The characters are so well described that you really feel that you are getting to know them. This book sets up the story for all the other Harry potter books. It is also a great book just on its own, and is not as dark and sinister as some of the others.

This is the first book in the Harry Potter series.  We started reading it at school but then I borrowed my dad's copy as I badly wanted to read it.  It's about a boy but he is different from any other kid.  He goes to Hogwarts to learn how to become a wizard but strange things happen there.....
I think this book is very mysterious and interesting.  It is one of my favourite books.  I loved it so much that I have already read the second book and I am reading the third one now.  It might be best to read this book in your summer holidays because you won't be able to put it down!  Once I've read all of the books, I'm going to watch the films!
Brilliant!  Exciting! Amazing! Fun! Awesome!  Cool!

Harry Potter and the Philosopers stone is my most favourite book ever as this is the one where we are introduced into Harry's magical world for the first time.

I have read this book two times and I have watched the film lots.  My favourite part is when Vernon goes crazy at the letters and tries to run away but Hagrid finds them anyway and bashes the door down.

Everybody should read the Harry Potter at least once.

My son is only 7 but an avid independent reader. I started off reading him a chapter a night but he soon took over and read the book himself. He usually managed about 10 pages each bedtime. The story is probably a little advanced for his age but if you think your child is mature enough then these iconic books are fantastic for independent readers

Harry Potter was the first book that I had ever read. I was 8/9 years old when I started The Philosopher's Stone and I loved it. After about a year I had read all the way up to the Goblet of Fire. I really enjoyed all of the books and when Harry Potter was made into a movie a local radio station approached my school and asked if they could take me and another boy to see the movie and interview us afterwards to see how it fared in comparison to the book. It was a cool experience. When I got older I kinda lost touch with reading for a few years until my sister in law introduced me to the Percy Jackson books. And I have now read the entire series. It was my love of the Harry Potter books that drew me to the Percy Jackson novels. And now I'm 25 and I still love reading books like Harry Potter because you can get lost in the imagination and magic of the world.

Harry doesn’t know at first that he’s a wizard with magic powers. I saw the movie at my friend’s house at a sleepover and I loved it so much my mum bought the whole collection for me. I liked all the traps and magic to get the philosophers stone so that lord Voldemort couldn’t get it. Would you like it if lord Voldemort got his body back and became your worst enemy? ..Yes or No ?

this is the first book in the amazing harry potter series and it is just magical
it opens your mind to the world of witchcraft and wizardry and is just fantastic.
you are introduced to poor harry potter an orphan who lives with his very nasty aunt and uncle and cousin. at the beginning of the story harry lives in the cupboard under the stairs and has no idea that he is a wizard (he is just poor harry who can do no right).
the book is fantastically written and the adventures that harry and his friends get up to are quite terrifying but fascinating too.
a brilliant book i would recommend to confident readers

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was the best book I ever read in my whole life. The book is about a boy called Harry Potter who doesn't know it but hes a wizard. He lives with his Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and there son Dudley. They always keep Harry in the cuboard under the stairs and never gets treated the way he should. One day Harry gets a letter about him coming to Hogwarts............... I can't tell you anymore because that would be cheating wouldnt it? This book is for ages 7 and up. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Harry finds out he is a wizard who has been invited to go to Hogwarts. A school of witch craft and wizardry. He then is informed about how his parents had died and he begins to find out more and more. I wont spoil the book anymore. I only wanted to read this book because I knew Harry Potter had an Owl and I love Owls. When I first started reading this book I thought What happend to Harry Potters parent because there are 2 different sides to the story.I also thought that Dudley was selfish and spoilt.  This made me to stop reading Harry Potter books.
