The Magician's Nephew
Author: C. S. Lewis
We loved this story. The characters took you back in time and beautifully explored other worlds. There are hardly any illustrations in this book and they aren't necessary as the wonderful magical worlds and captivating characters are clearly painted by the skilful writing of the author. I'm so glad we've begun this journey into these wonderful stories at this point. Each night 2 chapters are not enough!!

Flying Fergus 4: The Championship Cheats
Author: Chris Hoy Illustrator: Clare Elsom
I love the characters in this book and they are quite realistic. I like that there are races and then the story shoots off to a magical world. I like that the children who don't always have the best stuff win the races.

Five Minutes' Peace
Author: Jill Murphy Illustrator: Jill Murphy
We love the Big family stories and all of their mishaps and adventures. For a mummy who often has her boys involved in all aspects of her day, this story ran true for us all. A loveable fun story for all of the family.

The Midnight Gang
Author: David Walliams Illustrator: Tony Ross
We loved the characters in this book and the many adventures they enjoyed. This was our first Walliams book and we noted the similarity to Dahl's amazing and timeless work. Lots of fun and great deeper level issues to discuss about children's health.

Grandpa's Great Escape
Author: David Walliams
Another of Walliams wonderful adventures. This was a well written and thought provoking story which stimulated some really good discussion about old age! I was really pleased that I had read this with my son rather than him reading it alone at this stage. While we enjoyed the funny moments and sense of suspense, there were also tears as we read. This is the sign of a great story with characters who captured out hearts and others who made is cringe.
