Nate Wright is a rebellious eleven-year-old who is convinced that he is a genius destined for greatness. Despite any evidence to the contrary (for example, being the all-time record holder for detentions in school history), his belief in his destiny is unshakeable. After all, he read it in a fortune cookie, so it must be true.

Whether it is as a talented comic book artist, the self-proclaimed king of the class or the motivational leader of the school sports team, Nate approaches everything with reckless confidence and resolute enthusiasm. Nate will not let anything get in his way, even if it means landing in detention AGAIN.

Big Nate started out as the star of the popular American comic strip by Lincoln Peirce. Peirce started making comics in the 6th grade, just like Big Nate himself. He created the Big Nate comics in 1991, naming the main character after his nickname for his big brother, and they have appeared in over 300 American newspapers as well as daily on gocomics.com Following the success of the Peanuts style online cartoon, Peirce has gone on to write a series of eight Big Nate books and there is even a 3D animated Big Nate movie in the works for 2021.

The Big Nate books are perfect for comic lovers and fans of Diary of A Wimpy Kid, The Beano or Captain Underpants will love their silly humour and brilliant cartoons. We recommend the series for children aged 9 and over. Book 1 is The Boy With the Biggest Head in the World but you don’t need to read them in any particular order.
