Leo was really excited reading this adventure story about two dogs who were once robbers and now bakers. They turn detective to track down a masterpiece that goes missing from an art gallery. We hadn't read any of the other books in the series however this book worked well as an introduction. Leo liked finding the little spider to spot on every page. He also enjoyed reading along with the Stories Aloud audio book that you can access using a QR code at the beginning.

Shifty and Sam have to stop an art thief in Paris. I won't spoil it and tell you what happens but it's good fun and exciting and made me laugh. I really like the illustrations and the detail in them. I prefer the longer stories of Shifty and Sam but I still really liked this and will read it to my younger cousin too.

I love a Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam, they are lovely to read aloud and this one is no exception.  The Missing Masterpiece is set in Paris and is full of little visual jokes that adults will enjoy - I love Steven Lenton's illustrations, especially Frida Collie!!  For little ones, there is a cute, tiny spider to find on every page and if you are feeling tired, you can use the free audio reading by scanning the QR code in the book (This feature is great for children just starting read as they can listen as they read along).

Perfect for preschoolers.
A large book, inviting characters on front page. Large front easy for starter readers.
If you like Julia Donaldson books you'll love this. Similar witty rhyming stories full of fun and excitement around Paris. Good strong characters, Sophie always boos when she sees a fox. Very funny and enjoyable.

Such a wonderful book.
It is written in rhyme - which is a massive bonus.  And the storyline has a good pace.
Another thing we enjoyed was the fact that it is centred around art. The book mentions various 'dog versions' of famous art works, so we ended up looking up the originals and having a chat about them - so I am please it has opened up the doors for us to chat about art.

The book is based around Paris - so it would be a good one to read before a trip there.

Also there is a recipe to make a ginger bread tower - so fab!
