Welcome to the Midnight Gang! Midnight is the time when all children are fast asleep, except of course for... the Midnight Gang. That is when their adventures are just beginning...
When Tom gets hit on the head by a cricket ball, he finds himself at Lord Funt Hospital, and is greeted by a terrifying-looking porter. Things go from bad to worse when he meets the wicked matron in charge of the children's ward... But Tom is about to embark on the most thrilling journey of a lifetime!
The Midnight Gang tells an extraordinarily heartwarming and, of course, funny story of five children on a hospital ward - and on a quest for adventure! It is a story of friendship and magic - and of making dreams come true. Readers are set to be utterly spellbound by this heartfelt story that will bring magic to everyone.

What a lovely book. To focus on kids that are unlucky enough to be in hospital is a really good viewpoint.

This book is great, I like it that it's about children who want to have fun in a boring hospital. My favourite character is the caretaker because he is the only nice grown up in the book and he isn't nasty to the children. I think it is quite funny and couldn't put it down.

I would recommend reading midnight gang because it's full of adventures. It's all about five children and a man called the porter. If you don't know what a porter is it's a man who moves people around the hospital. At midnight they sneak out to the basement where the porter makes there dreams come true. One child wished to fly, another whished to be the first girl to go to the North Pole.

P.s happiness is the cure to everything

I really liked the work David Walliams and Tony Ross have put into the book. I didn't really dislike anything. My favourite character was the Matron as she was very crazy and mad. The book is a mystery until you read it. The illustrations are very good as well as the front cover. This book was very fun and enjoyable.

This book is really really good!!! The story is that Tom goes to a posh boarding school for (horrible) boys.  While playing cricket (his least favourite sport) he bashes his head an  has to go to the hospital he meets all the children and at midnight they leave him and Sally and go away. When I got to this point in the book I got sucked into the story! I loved the porter helping all of the midnight Gang to fulfil their dreams! At the end before Tom goes because he is better the midnight Gang fulfil one more wish. Sally 's!!! The funniest bit in this book is the incident with the naked flying lady.

The Midnight Gang is a lively book. The scene is set in Lord Funt Hospital. It’s about a boy called Tom who had a head injury and so has to go to hospital where he finds lots of friends in the children’s ward. Each night they take turns to have a dream come true. I think this would be a brilliant book for children aged eight and above. I like the book because it is very adventurous, there are some action bits and some talking bits. I like the illustrations to help me picture the story.

A fun frolic with a touching end - definately a book that reminds us of the importance of friendship and acceptance. I read this with my boys. We loved the Caretaker who brought childrens wishes true! what a hero - even though he himself was touched by sadness, an outcast because of his looks.
I love that David Walliams has chosen characters who each have their own personal identities, and some who are different because of their health, their character or looks. He makes the point that everyone deserves a chance, and that no book should be judged by its cover, in his own imitable and funny way. We really enjoyed this latest book, and will be looking forward to the next!!

What a fantastic book!!
I have read all the David Walliams books so far but I think this one is my favourite along with Billionaire Boy.
The story is about a boy called Tom who ends up in hospital after having a knock to his head at boarding school. When he is on the children's ward he notices all the children apart from Sally sneaking off on a night away from the porter and ward doctor so he goes along with The Midnight Gang.
This story is very funny but it doesn't feel forced and over the top, like some stories.
All the children stick together in the story and the books shows the meaning of friendship and been there for your friends.
I did feeling sad at times because none of the children had visitors or family come to see them whilst they were in hospital and Tom felt like his family didn't love him but it wasn't a sad for long because the children had each other.
I got this book from my local library before winning a copy off Toppsta, so I'm trilled to have a copy of the book to keep.
This is the kind off book you could read over and over again without getting board.
I hope they do a copy of this book for tv at Christmas.
Fantastic Fantastic Fantastic..... I really cant recommend this book enough.

Having previously read 'Billionaire Boy'with my son, and which I had not particularly enjoyed, my expectations for this book were not particularly night. However, this book appealed to both my son and I immediately. It follows the adventures of the occupants of the children's ward at Lord Funt Hospital. However, I do not know too much about the rest of the plot, as my son read much of it himself. After our first reading together at bedtime he wanted to read more to himself, and woke up the next owning just wanting to continue reading it. This book really captured my sons attention. Of the bits that I did read, I thought it was very funny, silly and well written - it was definitely reminiscent of Roal Dahl. it made me realise what all the fuss is about David Walliams as an author, and my son is now very keen to read more of his books.

What a fabulous book - we loved it! Set in a children's hospital, the book details the adventures the young patients get up to once the hospital is asleep. With a great cast of loveable children, adults you can't help but hate (bar one or two!), this is an exciting and heart-warming adventure that we looked forward to reading each night. Brilliant.

This book is an awesome type of goofy but also heartfelt and serious. It tells the story of a young boy called tom who gets admitted to hospital because he got whacked in the head with a cricket ball. There are many ill children who have to put up with the day to day boring and dullness of the hospital. The staff are sour and cold hearted. However the ugly porter takes pity on them and every night they escape to have great adventures to wherever their heart desires. I would definitely recommend it as it is suitable for most ages and even adults!

The second I saw that this book was written by David Walliams, I knew I had to read it. The book is about a young boy called Tom who visits the doctors because of an injury in cricket. In the children's ward he meets 4 other children. Later on in the book he realises that in the middle of the night they sneak away and do something. Intrigued, he tries to join in. I really liked this book due to it's humour and funny jokes.

I read this book to Alex and he really enjoyed this story. The book is about a group of children that are all on a children's ward in a hospital. Tom is the main character and is a boy that doesn't have any friends and his parents travel around so he is based in a  boarding school as they never want to have him around.

Tom seems a bit of a lost soul as if he doesn't really belong anywhere so when he befriends the children on the ward he finally gets a sense of belonging after discovering them all sneaking about the hospital after midnight where they have adventures together.

This story focuses on how we can all want more but to make the best of what we have and there are lots of horrid characters in the book such as Matron to make you realise that appearances can be deceptive. Matron looks like a glamorous kind woman yet she is positively evil! The Porter who looks scary and his appearance at first, frightened Tom, ended up being the most caring character in the book.

A lovely, heartwarming story that we really enjoyed reading together.

The midnight gang is about a boy called Tom. Tom had an accident at school so he got sent to the hospital where he got introduced to George, Robin, Sally, and Amber. Each child apart from Sally were part of, The Midnight Gang. They would explore around the hospital at midnight to make each others dreams come true.

They invited Tom one night and they went on an imaginary adventure to the north pole. I say imaginary because they didnt actually go. With the help of the Porter, they created a part of the north pole to play in. It was magical.

The children did it quite often but they were forgetting about Sally. Sally couldn't experience the fun because she had a liife changing operation to be delt with. Her dream was to do things every person would go through before it could possibly be too late.

Will Sallys dream come true? find out in the story. This book was really good because it demonstates different emotions as the story follows through. I rate this book 5 stars and i reccomend this book to people over the age of 9.

This was the second David Walliams book my son and i read together. Except from Raj, the newsagent, all the characters are new. It is set in a children's ward at an old hospital. The children get up to a lot at night time in the hospital. It's not a typical children's story and that's what really makes it stand out. In the gloomiest of places, there is hope and laughter. We enjoyed reading it together.

They showed all kinds of children one that had broken her arms and legs and also one who had a cloth on their eyes as he had had an operation in his eyes so he couldn’t see. They all had to have their gang time,by this time all of the people who had been working in the hospital were asleep. They all had to have a dream and then the dream they had longed for would come true.A little girl called Sally who had a dream that was a dream they had to think about for a whole day until they knew whatever they had to do.

This had, like most David Walliams books wonderfully positive themes running through it about friendship and honesty, which are accessible to children.

This was a good book.  It was about a boy who goes into hospital and then they have amazing adventures.  It was a bit sad.  Most of David Walliams books are sad with people dying in.
I liked the main character and the porter, who was a really nice kind man, despite looking funny!
I would recommend this book to my friends, especially those who like other David Walliams books and Roald Dahl books.

Not the favourite David Walliams book in our house but still loved by my 9yr old very much.  As always the humour appeals to this age group and there is something of the Road Dahl in his writing style.  The characters are adventurous and my son says it helps with his imagination!
