'Little Lasagne Sisters' is part of 'Cook with Me', a series of books for children and their parents on the art of cookery, explaining the science of the ingredients and the historical origin of the recipes, all dressed up with lots of fun because cooking should be fun as well as educational.
This flip-over book has a triple aspect. In the first part our magical trip takes us into a world of flavours, beginning in Ancient Greece all the way through to the modern day. In the following section we prepare together this tantalising recipe, step by step, and we also learn some of the little tricks that my Cordon Bleu teacher revealed to me, such as preparing a lovely Bechamel Sauce without lumps!
At the end of the recipe a special path brings us towards a funny 'turn of events'. The child can turn the book upside-down to discover, in the final part, the science behind the recipe and to meet Mr Sugar. In this way awareness is built a little bit at a time, in such a way that the child can easily relate to and learn some nutritional information introduced in bite-sized chunks.
This book allows sharing a fun-filled and joyful experience for children and parents that will help with bonding!
Primary Schools can use the series for Cookery Clubs or regular hands-on sessions, to prepare the children for the more elaborate tasks awaiting them in Secondary School and in their lives ahead.
The recipe has been tested and tasted by my two chief tasters, my two lovely children!
This is Book 10 in the Cook with Me Series. See all Cook with Me books here.
