Illustrated by the bestselling author and illustrator of Great Women Who Changed the World, Kate Pankhurst, Captain Cat and the Treasure Map is a laugh-out-loud piratical adventure from Sue Mongredien, perfect for newly confident reads or to enjoy together. Patch is a ship's cat who lives aboard The Golden Earring. Along with her friends, Cutlass the parrot and Monty the monkey, Patch frequently gets the pirate crew out of trouble - although they never realize quite how much she does to save their skins . . . In their first adventure, the pirate crew discover a treasure map and set out to find where X marks the spot. But little do they know that the treasure is cursed and it's up to Captain Cat to stop them, before it's too late!

This was a very fun adventure story about a ships cat and a pirate crews race to find treasure. We enjoyed the illustrations (black and white) and my daughter thought the pirates jokes were very funny.
A great book, and start to a new series.

This is a funny adventure book about a cat, parrot and monkey. Patch is the cat, Cutlass is the parrot and Monty is the Monkey. They belong to the Golden Earring Crew which includes the pirates Captain Halibut, Cannonball, Butch and Ginger. They are in a race with the Black Heart Crew to reach the treasure first but the animals are trying to stop the Golden Earring Crew because the treasure is said to be cursed and may lead to certain death. There are some great black and white pencil drawings in the book and some very funny jokes and songs. We all really enjoyed reading this book together and it made us laugh a lot. We  especially like pirate stories and are very excited to read the sequel when it comes out.

Captain Cat and the Treasure Map is a book that I loved reading. I liked the part when the pirates stole the treasure because it was so funny.
I would give this book 100/100 as I totally loved it.

It's one of the most amazing books I ever read in my whole life!

A charming, rather funny, pirate story. The story is seen through the eyes of three animals on board a pirate ship, The Golden Earring: Monty, a monkey, Cutlass, a parrot, and Patch, a cat. Patch, is a clever, little character, not really listened to, but still manages to sort things out. The parrot has a tendency to tell lots of 'groan making' jokes. The illustrations, in the main, seem to have been drawn in pencil. Unfortunately, times (to my eyes) they can be a little faint. My son enjoyed the story and liked Patch, the cat. However, I don't thing he would be interested in further books in the series. It is probably best suited for 5 - 8 year olds.

This is a brilliant book for children that like adventures, it also challenges to children to remember the characters. What’s brilliant about this book is that you get an introduction of the crew and a picture of them therefore children can visualise the crew in the ship. The book has humour. I have had to explain to my 5 year old about them.
It is a great book to read and can’t wait for the next book to be released.

We all enjoyed this funny, pirate adventure with its 'race to the treasure' storyline.  The wisecracks had the children laughing out loud - as did the references to poo - and they both got caught up in the excitement of the race.  The crew intro at the beginning of the book was really helpful while we got our bearings with the characters, and the children enjoyed tracking the adventure on the map (who doesn't love a map?!) as the story unfolded.  We also liked Kate Pankhurst's illustrations which were a perfect match for the narrative.  While I read this as our bedtime story, my daughter is now looking forward to reading it by herself and has added it to her reading pile.

We enjoyed this pirate adventure. The introduction to the characters and the map were a big hit as we started the story. There is plenty of pirate language throughout the story and the children thought that it was funny the pirates couldn’t understand the animals. The jokes caused much laughter and the illustrations brought the story to life. I’m sure we will be looking out for more pirate adventures.

It was a regular day for Captain Patch and her crew, until the crew found a message in a bottle. What the crew didn’t find, was another message inside a message. The message was a treasure map

I shared this book with my Year One class, and as we are a boy heavy group, a pirate story immediately grabbed their attention. At first, the group struggled to remember each of the crew characters, so I used the illustration at the front of the book as a visual reminder, and this really helped. We did a similar thing with the map illustration, and this really helped the class visualise and anticipate how close the pirates were getting to the treasure. My class really liked the illustrations - especially Captain Crunchbone with his bone shaped nose piercing.

The story was pacy, and kept the children engaged. The crew of the Golden Earring find a treasure map, and immediately head off in search of the prize. But, what only the animal crew members know is that the treasure is cursed. The story follows the animal crew members trying hopelessly to stop the human pirates finding the treasure. The children in 1B really enjoyed some of the attempts made by the animals to stop them.

There's some lovely language for reading aloud, and lots of onomatopoeia too if that's something you'd like to focus on, I found it really helped with the reading. I also loved the way Cutlass's jokes were displayed in the story.

Having read the extract from the next in the series at the end of the story, I would definitely consider reading it to my class.
