Alas and alack! The Royal Money Box is almost empty. The king has to get a job - but what kind of job would be fit for a king? Butcher? Baker? Candlestick Maker? It takes many comical disasters, and a surprisingly helpful visit from a dragon, before both cat and king find their perfect jobs.

This wonderfully funny follow-up to Nick Sharratt's acclaimed debut novel, The Cat and the King, is a feast of fun and glorious illustration.

We have just started reading this book and so far, so good. We try to read a chapter each night, which my 6-year-old really enjoys. The storyline has a nice pace and the illustrations are great. They are in black, white, grey and red, which make the book very distinctive. Also we love Nick Sharratt books - so we know it is bound to be amazing!

These books ate great for newly confident readers as they seem to bridge a gap between picture and longer story books. My daughter loved the illustrations, and thought the story was fun.

This book is very interesting. My daughter loved the illustrations. There is a lot of reading in the book, but it is arranged so well that she does not notice it.  The story is very nice and funny. Great book for children learning to read independently.

This is a fun book about a king and his cat adjusting to life away from the palace. The king needs to find a job, but the question is if he can find something suitable. There are also references to a dragon (that I believe is in a previous book or two), which makes you wonder if it will make a return. My daughter has really enjoyed the times the king tries jobs that don't work out. She hasn't finished it yet, but I've previewed it and am sure she will enjoy the ending. I've foud the characters to be likeable, even when they aren't seeing eye to eye. This book is great to read aloud because the chapters are short and full of illustrations. It also contains a few footnotes, which is something nice to introduce in a fiction work. I think this will be a nice book for her to read independently when she gains a bit more confidence. It's full of humor to keep a child's interest.

We have really enjoyed reading this book. The amount of text on each page isn’t overwhelming and their are fun illustrations to accompany the story. Nice work for the Cat and the King is a good starter book for children who are just beginning to free read. The story line is fun and holds child’s attention, we found we had a lot to talk about after each chapter.

We loved this book. My 5 and 8 year old sons and myself all took turns reading this story out loud. A lovely presented book with fun illustrations and a funny and easy reading story. Small paragraphs broken up with illustrations. We had quite a few laugh out loud moments. Both the cat and the king are likeable characters. We hadn't read the first book but that doesn't matter at all and is now on our to read list.

In the story there was a cat and the king. They lived in a fabulous castle. One day, the cat and the king were having breakfast at the royal table and they were talking about if the king wanted a job. He tried all the jobs but he wasn't very good at any of them. He found out in the end he was best at being King.

The best bit in the story was when he worked in a cafe because he made the best cake ever and nearly everyone wanted a bit. Even that made me hungry.

My favourite character in the story was the cat because he made all the cakes for the King and I think that made the king lazy.

I thought this book was good because it wasn't too short and it wasn't too long and when I grow up I want to be a queen.
