If you like huge unusual words then you'll love this A-Z as much as we do! It is filled with some of the wildest words you'll have ever heard and really got our tongues in a twist! You can tell that the author has a complete love of language through the fantastic choices made and their wonderful descriptions. James Patterson is a favourite author in our house and so his name alone made us reach for the book!
It's so much more appealing to read than your A is for Apple type books so would be thoroughly recommended...and will definitely get your child noticed at playgroup when they say 'That rapscallion took my lego brick!' Hahaha

As a high school English teacher, I love this book!!  First off, the word selection is great.  They're definitely big words. I love how they included the word's pronunciation as some words were new to me. The book uses the word in a sentence and provides a lovely illustration of it. So each word is like a very short story with a bright cheerful picture. In short, this book is essentially an alphabet book, but instead of the usual "A is for Apple," it's "A is for Arachibutyrophobia."  My little one had a lot of fun looking at the pictures and saying the very big words with me. As did I.

My daughter thought this book was amazing.
The book is a bundle of super words that is organised in alphabetical order. Each word is carfefully explained and the way in which you should pronounce it is also written, as you would expect in a dictionary.
The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. I could quite happily frame each page. The artwork is colourful and quirky and the palette of colours are just so eye catching. My daughter also loved the front cover of the book but it is disguised by the dust jacket, a feature that many picturebooks in the UK do not have.
The book is a celebration of literacy. It opens children's minds to new vocabulary and is a book that doesn't talk down to children. My daughter had great fun listening to new words and finding out what they mean. She also had a great giggle at me attempting to pronounce them which I loved as I want her to witness me learning new things also.
A fantastic idea for a book that oozes new learning, a delight visually and made my daughter smile. Perfect!

We absolutely loved this book. I especially liked it myself. 'Big Words for little Geniuses' is an A-Z picture book with a difference. When it starts with 'A is for Arachibutyrophobia (the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof your mouth)' you know that this book is unique. Some of the words featured are definitely hard to pronounce and the phonetic style breakdown of each word in brackets after it is very helpful. The book is so clever. It finds amazing words with bizarre pronunciations and makes them fun, magical and memorable. The illustrations are perfect and add to the humorous side of this book. Dulcifluous is a new favourite word of mine and my son loved Zamboni. At the end of the book there is another mini A-Z which gives you one more interesting word per letter such as Pandiculation and Taradiddle. I think this book has an amazing concept and although you may know a few of the words it will definitely help widen anyone's vocabulary for the better. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

My four year old was absolutely delighted when this book arrived as she said  it was 'just the right size'! The pictures are big, bold and quirky and appeal to both children and adults. The words are delightful and me and my daughter both tried to say them all - with hilarious results! It gave us an opportunity to have a giggles and spend some much needed Mum and Daughter time together! I even caught my husband having a quick read of it - and he thoroughly enjoyed it!!!

A big step up from the normal A-Z books. It was quite funny to try to read the words, very thankful the pronunciation is there and even so I still got my tongue twisted with some of them, which made us all have lots of giggles. I enjoyed learning some new words. My son tried repeating the words, but most of them were too difficult for him. I also loved the illustrations but he just didn't feel so entertained with them and was loosing his focus before getting to the end of the book. So unfortunately I'll try this book again with him in a while and I hope he's more excited about it.
