Polly and her new ghostly friends William, Rex and Magnus wake Li-Mei, the Chinese porcelain Fu Dog from the Red Drawing Room. The little Pekinese tells them her adventures with Sarah Penhallow - how they investigated rumours of smugglers and sighted a ghostly Green Lady down at the cove. But when Polly looks at the family portrait she realises that there were actually two dogs. Eventually, Li-Mei reveals that she had a companion, Han, but she thinks that he drowned down by the cove. Together, the friends set off to solve the mystery once and for all, and discover a secret tunnel. Here they come across a broken statue of a dog beneath a rockfall. Then they see a vision of a tiny dog running after a group of smugglers, only for the tunnel to collapse on him. Polly returns to the house with the statue and hides it in a drawer of a lacquer cabinet. When she opens it again the cracks have gone - Li-Mei and Han are reunited at last on the mantelpiece.

I loved this book the second one in the series. I think it helps if you have read the first one.

My favourite character was Rex, a statue of a dog that comes to life because he is kind.

I think all lovers of Holly Webb would like this book as well as dog lovers.

Polly lives at Penhallow with her mum. She's a bit sad as her dad passed away and has to start a new school. However, she meets the ghosts of past residents and pets at Penhallow and together they solve a mystery or two in this book.

This is a great read. Spooky and spine-tingling but not too scary. I was a bit worried reading it (as my heart was beating fast) because I thought my daughter would get scared but the explanation was just right.

This is the second book in the Penhallow Hall series and is the first book i have read from the series so i will be going back to read the first one! This is also the first book i have read by Holly Webb that is about ghosts, usually it's all about the animals!

I really enjoyed the book, it was a lovely story about a girl called Polly who can wake dogs from their statue state. I thought it was a thrilling adventure, fun to read about and easy enough to read in one sitting- i completely devoured it.

I loved the characters and thought the illustrations were a nice touch as they broke up some of the pages.

If you liked Holly's other books then you will definitely enjoy this one. Perfect for mystery lovers and fans of light fantasy stories.

I have read Holly Webb books in the past and have enjoyed them. This is quite different to her other books. It's a great adventure story. I wish I had read the first in the series, I felt like I was missing something.

We didn't realise this was the second book and I think you need to read the first one first, we have it on order at the library and will read this one again after.

easy format to read and I'm sure when Eve has read the first one she will find this one enjoyable.

I read this book quite quickly because it was easy to read and the story flowed well

I did not realise it was a book from a series and feel like I should have read the first book before this one

I did feel like the book was aimed for someone younger than myself, so I would recommend it for ages 7 - 10 years
