My little girl who is 3 has not shown much interest in sitting down with activity books. When I put this book in front of her she was instantly drawn to the colours and pictures of animals. She loves it and keeps asking for it everyday. I highly really recommend it! :)

My 4 year old loved this, he doesn't always cooperate with learning but as this book incorporated zoo animals he wanted to do it. We loved the fun animal facts mixed in with the learning, it definitely kept him interested.

My 3 year old isn't keen on sitting still and learning but he really did take to this book. It's simple with fantastic pictures all about animals. The exercises are really short so after we did one, he sometimes says he want to do one more. I think that's great as it encourages him to want to do it himself rather than having to keep working on one longer exercise. He particularly loves the wild facts throughout the book for Mummy to read. I guess it feels to him like we are both reading the book together, rather than him just working.

A great workbook for introducing early phonics for children. My son enjoyed the fact it was based on animals and is a lot funner than a lot of other phonics books on the market.

My daughter was very excited when she's got this book. She's four so she can't read yet but she knows some of the letters and knows how to write them. She loved the pictures and the fact that she could tell herself which animals starts with letter g or the fact that she could colour some of the pictures. As she loves animals she was even more excited and at this point it's her favourite book - she takes it everywhere with her which is a great sign for her days in reception. I love the fact files that are written in the simple and short way that even 4 year old will remember. We also love the fact that you can find real photos of animals as well as animated. Lately we went to zoo and my daughter was really excited when she realised she saw almost all animals from this book!

I definitely recommend this book to all school beginners.

daniel has been doing his basic phonic in nursery and this book is fantastic for reminding him what he has already learned and also there are lots of new letter sounds, hopefully the repetition from school and home will help his speech too
would recommend for all school starters

This book is fantastic. My son starts nursery in September and this book will be great for then and beyond. We have completed a few pages to get ready for nursery already. The activities are bright and full of fun facts. Perfect learning book!

Our 3.25yr old has suddenly shown a real interest in letters and is pretty good at recognising all of the lower / most of the upper case. We're working on "I spy... something beginning with t" games a lot at the moment, so this book is the perfect partner to dip in and out of. Sophie doesnt go to any childcare, so I'm trying to do phonics myself with her so she's not behind her peers - so I really appreciate the structure of the book / how it pairs up sounds and works on getting the child to choose the correct sounds from a subgroup of letters / learn to differentiate the first letter of a word. The animal theme has also proved very popular with Sophie... and the extra "facts" etc about the animal along the way help to keep the tone relaxed. Very impressed with this Toppsta giveaway - will be looking to buy some of the other books in the series now.

We've been looking for fun ways to introduce phonics with my nearly 4 year old, so this seemed like an ideal book. While she briefly enjoys the animal pictures, she has not responded to the phonics activities. As a nursery teacher, I do think this seems like a good resource to review sounds the child already knows. But it's a bit tricky as an introduction, especially with children who have delays. I have modified some of the activities to keep her interest briefly, but she has yet to complete a page in a sitting. If you get this book, just be prepared that it might not work for your child from the start. I plan on working with her little and often, and I do expect her to become more interested as it starts to click for her.
I really like the variety of animals included and the fact that it isn't just the animals children always see. For instance, there is a page focusing on impalas. I don't know much about them, so the facts taught me a few things.
The only real complaint I would have about this book is that the first page didn't print properly. I don't know if that is a common error or just a fluke with my copy. Luckily, it doesn't really affect the activities.

A great work book, my son knew nothing about phonics when I introduced this too him, but he showed huge interest and it's. Nice easy well exolained book for starters. It makes me happy that he will now start reception in September with some understanding of phonics.
The pictures were great and there's plenty to keep children interested.

This was very much a 'work' book. We only completed a couple of pages at a time before Jessica became bored. It will probably more appropriate when she is slightly older. It is good for reinforcing Phoenic work learned at school.
