Another very good educational book from Usborne. Beautiful illustrations to show and explain all possible types of families. They don't go into deep details of how each one of them works, but enough to start various conversations. They also explain the family tree, show how families can change with new/leaving members, how families have different celebrations and even how some of them talk more than one language. This was very nice for us, since it's our case and my son was quite happy to see this being explained as a normal thing.

A brilliant book! Stuff full of lovely pictures of all kinds of families and loads of informations about them. It talks about different types of families, where people live, what they do and eat, and how they feel. I think this book is great for my daughter as she starts school soon and will be meeting more and more friends with different families.

A vibrant, bright, educational book. As a family with two mummies, we struggle to find any books which have similar family set ups to ours, and as our son is starting school soon we wanted to be able to explain the differences in families to him in an easy way. This book has been brilliant to show him all the different kinds of families in the world and how his family is included also. It’s a beautifully illustrated book and each page has so much to keep little ones engaged.

Before even opening the book I knew my daughter and I would love this from just looking at the cover. It is such a lovely vibrant book that has so much information about all different types of families. My little girl was so engaged while we read this charming book together, she now asks for it almost every night.

This is a brilliant and inclusive book all about families. It goes through the different types of family there are, changes that you can experience in a family, the people in your family and things that families do, for example eating different foods and speaking different languages. We really liked that it gave a brief description of what different terms you can use for different families, they are really clear and don't offer too much information to overwhelm young children. We loved that different aspects of our own family were represented (only child, divorced grandparents, family members who are gay), this is really important! There is a bit about making a family tree that acknowledges this can be complicated (definitely the case in our family!). A great book for discussing families, especially if your family are a bit different and you want to see that in a book.

Lovely educational book with great vibrant pictures- what we've come to expect from Usborne and my daughter just loves it. Full of content on how and why each family is different without being overly detailed. My 4 year old enjoyed learning about the different foods other families eat and their celebrations and As parent I also found it helpful that it approached the subject of death without being morbid and in a way a young child can begin to understand.

As soon as I saw this book I had to buy it. Many of my little boys books have a very 'traditional' family set up which isn't always reflective of the world we live in. For him to have a book where is own family dynamic is represented I hope that it will help him to understand that families really do come in all shapes and sizes. Whilst he is still too young to understand much of the book he loves sitting and looking at the bright illustrations and we talk about some families he knows that match those infront of him. I really treasure this book and the lesson it can teach because having understanding and empathy for others and knowing that we are all different and that is ok is such a wonderful lesson. I enjoyed this so much I wen't out and bought another for the children at the school I work in. With so many different family setups, cultures, beliefs etc. it is lovely to have a book that represents them all.

As a family, we have thoroughly enjoyed sharing this book together. There are some nice positive comments about what families are and some useful illustrations which encourage acceptance and understanding of difference. It’s not too complicated for young kids but gives enough information for them to understand.

I really wanted a book that would introduce the diversity of different families to my daughter. As she gets older and starts to make friends I want her to understand what family can mean to others. I really feel like this book will do just that. I was immediately drawn to this book by the wonderful illustrations. They really create a friendly feel that draws you in. I really like the family tree pages. This will be great when my daughter's older. I will be able to show her her own family tree and it will create lots of discussion. My daughter enjoyed the 'what do families do?' Pages. It's full with lots of colour and detail with lots of things to spot and talk together abour what she can see. It's a wonderful book to offer lots of topic starters from talking about different Homes to languages and family celebrations. This book will be one that will provide more learning as my daughter grows.

This is a delightful book which really demonstrates that families do come in all shapes and sizes.  My son struggled a bit because he is an only child and would ask why he did not have brothers and sisters like his school friends.  This book with wonderful illustrations to keep the child engaged and good explanations was simply perfect to try and explain things.  Highly recommended.

This book has lots of different facts and information about families and how they are all different. It brought up lots of questions about the different types of families and we had a good discussions about how different families work. My boy and I even started drawing up our own family tree. When I asked the kids their thoughts on the book they said they liked and gave it four stars.

This book is beautifully illustrated and contains a LOT of information.

I initially expected this book to read more like a story but it is definitely more of a factual book in the way it is set out. The story covers lots of elements about families, covering emotions, family trees, different types of families and the language used to describe families.

It is good for helping older children to understand families, I read this to both my 2 year old and my 7 year old and found the age range was more beneficial to maybe 5-7 year olds as my daughter lost interest fairly quickly.

The book is a great educational book and would be great for school early years as a reference point.
