My friend gave me this to read with my daughter who is starting nursery school soon. Its a great book for preparing those starting nursery or school. Its quite simple, and I really liked how it shows things which they might be worrying about when starting, aren't really a problem. The illustrations are great and really detailed. The book deals with a lot of activities that they will do at nursery or school, which is good, and it gave us lots of good talking points. I think everyone starting nursery or school should read this.I have read a few books about starting nursery or school with my daughter, and this one is my favourite.

This is a book every parents should have when their child starts school! It describes exactly to child what the school is like, what they will find inside the classroom, what activities they may have through the whole week. As my daughter started the school 5 months ago she was really pleased to see that they do the same activities as are described in the book.
She loves to come back to this book from time to time, especially after a holiday when she feels that she needs to remind herself the rules!!

This has been a great read as my daughter prepares to start school.  It goes through the different days and what the children might encounter, also showing that some things were hard at first but soon learnt.  It's a great book as it shows that school is for more than just their first day!!  Fun illustrations and helpful, fun story.

Sophie really enjoyed this starting school book.
Lovely simple ilksutraions made it easy for Sophie to connect with. She pointed out everything she saw at her school at the taster session. She is really looking forward to school and this book has helped alot.

I recently bought loads of starting school books as my eldest starts next month. What I loved about this one were the lovely illustrations, the sense of time passing and the children getting settled in, and the reminders of lovely moments I had at primary school ( the last day before Christmas break when you took pop and crisps in and had a party in the classroom!) My youngest boy (2) liked it too, especially pointing out the children dressed as witches!

This is a truly classic story to share with children who are just about to take their first steps into school. It's a little bit dated but the sentiments throughout are timeless. It beautifully illustrated the joys of those precious first days, weeks and eventually months in Reception. For parents who have children ready to start school, it's a lovely book to share (and might bring a tear to your eye as well).

Read this when our older daughter started school and it really helped us to find out stuff about her new school life when we couldn't get any information out of her - it explains how the school day might be set up and what activities you might do in a gorgeous way. I must find it again before our younger daughter starts!

Daughter (3.75yrs) will start school this September and is eager to find out more about it.

This book would have been good preparation for me as a child.... but it feels outdated vs what a child's typical experience of reception class would be today (eg. not all schools have formal assembly anymore... or a nativity) ... and over promises on what might be there (eg a rabbit). The idea of a mum going in to help with baking.... as well while lovely... feels like it harks back to a different time. The days seem very structured... vs the free flow / emphasis on play in todays EYFS.

So while a lovely book.... it just doesnt feel as relevant as it should be.
