The latest jaw-achingly funny, number-one bestselling novel from David Walliams - now out in paperback. Make your appointment if you dare...

Darkness had come to the town. Strange things were happening in the dead of night. Children would put a tooth under their pillow for the tooth fairy, but in the morning they would wake up to find... a dead slug; a live spider; hundreds of earwigs creeping and crawling beneath their pillow.
Evil was at work. But who or what was behind it...?

I read this book to my 7 year old daughter. It has some quite scary bits in there...  The Demon Dentist Miss Root is horribly scary!! My daughter loved the fact that Raj the newsagent is in the book, he's a great character! We loved how Alfie looked after his Dad and how the story unravelled. The ending was very sad when Alfie's Dad dies but its overcome by the joy of Alfie getting a new family in Raj and Winnie (the social worker) and their wedding. My daughter particularly liked Winnie's full name...but i'll leave that for you to discover!!

I've wanted to read this book for ages, I love David Walliums books! This didn't disappoint, I loved it!
The story was exciting and kept me wanting to read more! There are sad bits too and scary sections where the Demon dentist is unveiled! All the characters develop during the story and your opinions on them change too!
This is a great book and I'd recommend it to all my friends, I'm looking forward to my next Walliums adventure!!

I think the Demon Dentist is good because it has humour and it makes me think its real because of all the sadness and rage it was a big fiction book. Whenever I stop to go to bed I want to read more because it is so exciting. I leave it on a cliffhanger to make me predict whats going to happen next...I just stare at the air with thoughts of what would happen next. I loved the final chapter. These books are brilliant! So far I have read Worlds Worst Children 1, Worlds Worst Children 2 and Demon Dentist. Thank you for your marvellous books.

Alfie is a 12 year old boy who lives with his father who is very ill after working in the mines for many years.  They have a loving relationship and his dad calls him 'Pup'.  There are many more colourful characters throughout the story including a starring role for 'Raj' the newsagent who we have met in other stories.  Walliams has created a dark story where good overcomes evil and the love between a father and his child is felt strongly throughout the book.
This was a great story.  I am still amazed that I enjoy these books as much as my children as I have never been a fan of David Walliam's TV programmes.  That said he is encouraging children to read and that is great! From beginning to end my children were gripped and needed to know what was going to happen.  The mixture of font, size and pictures makes it accessible for all and from time to time the boys would ask if they could read a section.
*PARENT ALERT*
we had to read this book in the daytime as my son was having bad dreams about Miss Root!
There are references to Santa, The Tooth Fairy etc being real or not.  Walliam's does say that they are real but I had a lot of pricked up ears at that section!
I was in tears at the end of the story but my children were much more resilient than me, as always!

This book is about a boy who has toothache, he visits the Dentists who turns out to be very bad.
This book has some funny bits, but it is also very sad.
This book was 5 stars because there were sentence hangers which made me want to read more but I had to stop.

This book is great. David walliams is such a good writer.
The main characters in this story are Alfie,Alfie’s dad, The demon dentist (of course),Winnie (the social worker, and Raj (the news agent). The story is about Alfie who has the worst teeth ever. He hasnt been to the dentist for six years. A new dentist arrives in town after the old dentist mysteriously died in the dentist surgery. Alfie and his new friends Gabs (short for Gabriella) go on an adventure to find out what the new dentist is really up too. This book is gruesome and funny at the same time. I liked the made up word alerts and all together this book was great. I would recommend to anyone 7 plus.

This is my sons book, but he wanted me to read it, before he did to make sure it wasn't too scary, so I did. I thought some of the first half was quite funny, bit of a shame that the second half wasn't written with as much humour. Book wasn't really for me, but then I am an adult, can see it would appeal to young boys! (and it is not too scary)

‘Demon Dentist’ is quite a scary book. It frightened me a little bit, especially the Demon Dentist character. I wanted to stop reading because I was scared of what she would do, but I’m glad I finished reading the book as it was good and very funny. I would tell my friends that it is good but could be scary for them too, so they should wait and read it when they are older. The story is about a Demon Dentist who wants to steal all the children’s teeth. She makes her home, chairs and cups –out of rotten children’s teeth. Alfie and Gabz are the only ones who can stop her. I didn’t like it when the Demon Dentist stole teeth and left horrible things under the children’s pillow, because when I lost my front tooth, I thought she was going to come and leave something under my pillow. It was very cool how the tooth witch made a cave with a throne, cup and chandelier all made out of teeth. I also liked how Alfie’s dad uses the train in the mine to smash into the witches cave to rescue the children. It was a very exciting ending! My favourite character is Winnie because she is so silly. She does wheelies on her moped! I love Raj too because he is silly and kind.

The plot is not at all realistic but this is what makes this book a great read. A little boy called Alfie is the main character. Despite the sadness of Alfie’s situation, the plot itself is very funny and enjoyable, sending Alfie on adventures to find the truth about the new dentist in town. Although the book is big in size it's relatively easy to read. I would definitely recommend this to older children, and adults, to read. I would suggest that adults may wish to check the content before giving it to certain children as it could be quite upsetting for some (children who may be in similar situations, or who get scared easily).

Demon Dentist 9780007453580
4 stars
Alex and I regularly enjoy reading books together and have read a few of the David Walliams books and he has really enjoyed them.

The Demon Dentist was no different, Alex enjoyed guessing what was coming and was always hoping that we could read another chapter to find out what happened next. The odd illustration kept him even more interested in the story and helped him bring the story to life. Imagining what the dentist looked like and then seeing the illustration.

Although Alex is 7 he is a very confident reader and fairly mature for his age which is why we find the Walliams books suitable the mentioning of if the tooth fairy is real and Santa Claus had me a little anxious but the book managed to keep my son convinced that they both are.

An exciting read and entertaining throughout.

This is the first David Walliams book I have read to my 7 year old daughter. She wasn't too keen on it in the first two chapters but began to really enjoy the book and was eager for me to read on. This story was funny and entertaining although a little slow at times. I am looking forward to reading a few more titles.

Out of all David Walliams books this is the one that we enjoyed the least.  It wasn't fun and interesting like his other books I think it's because it was the most far from the truth.
The other books with a homeless man, a grandad loosing his memory, a horrid auntie are all a little bit possible.  A demon dentist that hurts and purposely scares children isn't.

Thankfully one i was reading with my daughter (7) as i had to stop her before the end. Little bit scary for younger readers, think it should be aimed more at 9/10year olds. My daughter loves the other David Walliams books.
