The Enchanted Wood is the first magical story in the Faraway Tree series by the world's best-loved children's author, Enid Blyton.

When Joe, Beth and Frannie move to a new home, an Enchanted Wood is on their doorstep. And when they discover the Faraway Tree, that is the beginning of many magical adventures! Join them and their friends Moonface, Saucepan Man and Silky the fairy as they discover which new land is at the top of the Faraway Tree. Will it be the Land of Spells, the Land of Treats, or the Land of Do-As-You-Please? Come on an amazing adventure - there'll be adventures waiting whatever happens.

The Faraway Tree stories have been delighting readers for over 75 years. Look out for the other titles in the Faraway Tree series: The Faraway Tree, Folk of the Faraway Tree, and Up the Faraway Tree. Also available in beautiful deluxe editions.

Also look out for the Blyton Colour Reads series. Chock full of vibrant colour illustrations from Alex Paterson, these are the perfect way to introduce the Faraway Tree adventures to children aged five and up.

Enid Blyton is arguably the most famous children's author of all time, thanks to series such as The Wishing-Chair, The Faraway Tree-, The Mysteries, The Famous Five and The Secret Seven. Enid takes her place alongside Roald Dahl, Beatrix Potter, and A. A. Milne as one of Britain's true heritage children's authors.

'Her books were terrific page-turners in the way no others were' - Michael Morpurgo, author of War Horse.

The Enchanted Wood is the first book from The Folk of the Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton.
I thought this book was outstanding from start to finish.
3 people moved to a house near the Enchanted Wood. The Enchanted Wood is full of magical characters and it is mostly a good place but there are some problems, which lead to adventures.
My favourite character was Moon Face and I would recommend this book to girls and boys aged 8-10.

This was one of my favourite books as a child and now I have been enjoying reading this to my 7 year old. She is fascinating about the adventures and has warmed to the character moonface already. This book is a must read.

I used to love this book as a child and was keen to read it to my own daughter. She absolutely loved the book and was desperate to climb up the faraway tree herself to go to all the lands at the top. She liked the characters Moonface and Silky the best and loved the idea of the slippery slip through the tree. This book really got her imagination going and she can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series.

I first read this book when I was a child, probably around 40 years ago! The story is just as magical now as it was then.  I read this book many many times and it was lovely to go back to the land of the Enchanted Wood and the Faraway Tree and all of the wonderful magical creatures and people again.
I bought this to read to my son as I hoped he would enjoy it as much as I did - and he did!  It is nice to know that a gentle magical story still appeals to boys today.
The reason I gave this book 4 stars rather than 5 is because this edition has changed some of the original names of the children, which I think is unnecessary.

Book 1 of 4 book series

I've been looking for chapter books to read together (her take the odd page, while I read the majority) to encourage her that "proper" books are not so daunting ! The Enchanted Wood introduces us to three siblings who have recently moved to the area, and find the woods at the bottom of the field have secrets to tell and adventures to bestow. One particular tree provides a route to different exciting (but often dangerous lands) and friendship from its inhabitants. Whimsical stories that fire the imagination.... but probably not good for bedtime as the demands for "one more chapter" are quite determined !

Level: Daughter is 5yrs old / last term of reception / Turquoise reading band.

We are reading this book at bedtime to 6 and 8 yr old boys having both read it ourselves as children. It has a great cast of characters and a nice, simple yet exciting, narrative as Joe, Beth and Frannie discover the magic Faraway Tree and its inhabitants for the first time.
Our boys engage completely when listening and can't wait to fill the other parent in on the chapter of the story they missed if they didn't read that night. I thought it might be too simple or old-fashioned compared to their other books but they just love the story telling. Enid Blyton will reign for some time it seems!

Captures the little ones' imaginations.  A bit dated, but nice to go back to simpler times.  A very worthy read.
