First up is Michael Rosen, one of the UK’s best-loved contemporary poets and children’s fiction writers. He’s won numerous awards and was the Children’s Laureate between 2007 and 2009. He has always highlighted the importance of humour in children’s literature and is the perfect head judge for the Lollies!
The second judge on the Lollies panel is Katie Thistleton, a keen bookworm and champion of children’s books and presenter on the CBBC Book Club. The third and fourth judges are both primary school teachers: Jo Cummins has over fifteen years’ teaching experience and blogs about children’s books @LibraryGirlandBookBoy; Jonny Walker is Assistant Headteacher at a Primary School in London, he’s writing his own children’s book and is also a keen education blogger @jonnywalkerteaching. Last but certainly not least is Kate Newport – Scholastic’s very own Product Director for Book Clubs and Book Fairs, who is in charge of choosing the very best books that children will love, so she’s a perfect addition to the panel.
The judges announced this year’s shortlist in June – twelve brilliantly funny laugh-out-loud children’s books. There are three categories in the awards: picture books; 6-8 years and 9-13 years, and the winning book in each category will be decided solely by children’s votes, with schools and parents encouraged to help kids get involved and vote via the Lollies website, or via the Lollies channel on the PopJam app. The winners will be announced in January 2019!
So, get involved! Take a look at the shortlist with your kids, pick a book, get reading and GET VOTING! If you’d like to download some free activity sheets or find out more about the PopJam app or the Lollies 2018 click here.
