The Gruffalo
Author: Julia Donaldson Illustrator: Axel Scheffler
The first book my youngest ever read! The dialogue is full of delicious rhymes and lends itself easily to reading aloud with different voices. The rhythm is relaxing enough for bedtime, but the plot is exciting enough for an afternoon story.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Author: Eric Carle
My boys adore eating, so I think they found their literary soul mate in The Very Hungry Caterpillar! We race through all the different foods as they can't wait to see what he eats next. A bedtime classic from my own childhood that I now enjoy with my own children.

A Busy Day for Birds
Author: Lucy Cousins Illustrator: Lucy Cousins
We were given this book by our local library and both my babies love it. The illustrations are bright and colourful, while the language is rich and rhymes beautifully. There are lots of actions to do together while reading.

Postman Bear
Author: Julia Donaldson Illustrator: Axel Scheffler
A lovely story with beautiful illustrations. My eldest loves lifting the flaps, while my youngest turns the pages. The repetition of "1, 2, 3" encouraged my toddler to knock on the doors before discovering who was inside. The illustration with the oven is particularly enjoyed; my oldest opens the oven door and says, "Mmm!" while rubbing his belly when he sees the pie! The pages are sturdy, as are the flaps, so even after lots of reading the book is still in good condition.

This Rabbit, That Rabbit
Author: Jane Porter
Bold and fun bunny rabbits with lovely rhymes throughout. A gift adored by both my babies.
