Fox's Socks
Author: Julia Donaldson
Fox's Socks is a firm favourite in our house. Simple illustrations and a story that all parents and children can relate to; the seemingly never ending search for missing socks! My daughters love looking under the flaps, but unfortunately our copy now has very few flaps left. It has been very well read!

Emily Brown and Father Christmas
Author: Cressida Cowell Illustrator: Neal Layton
Me and my almost 3 year old daughter both love this book and she has now started asking for "the Christmas book" every night. Following many attempts to use the latest technology to deliver the presents, Father Christmas needs Emily Brown's help to save Christmas. The moral of the story is a good one and gives an opportunity to talk about things that are important at Christmas other than presents, particularly in non-religious households. The illustrations also give us a lot to talk about and help my daughter understand the story. A very good read. We'll certainly be getting some more Emily Brown books for after Christmas.

Mrs Blackhat
Authors: Mick Inkpen , Chloe Inkpen
We absolutely love this book. The story is about a witch whose clothes and everything she she owns are black, until a ginger cat arrives at her house. She tries everything she can think of to turn the cat black. The narrative is thoroughly engaging for my two year old daughter. I found it a pleasure to read to her. The illustrations are excellent and are a great prompt for interaction with the story. It has become one of those books that she asks for every night.

Room on the Broom
Author: Julia Donaldson Illustrator: Axel Scheffler
I've read this book to my daughters so many times I can recite it by heart. My two eldest daughters always ask for this as a bedtime story. An exciting story full of magic and generosity. We love everything about this book; beautiful illustrations, rhyming text and fantastic characters.

Buster's Birthday
Author: Rod Campbell
My 2 1/2 year old daughter really enjoys lifting the flaps on this book to find out what each of the presents are. Reading this book is a good way to explain the concept of giving presents, which is often difficult for young children to understand. My daughter loves reaching the final page and opening the little surprise present. Simple illustrations accompany this simple story.
