One of our favourite time-travelling-machine series is Iszi Lawrence's hilarious fun Time Machine Next Door. As a plus, it also has black-and-white illustrations throughout.
Sunil and Auntie Alex are next-door neighbours, but they have a secret: they can travel through time. It all starts when Sunil breaks his grandfather's prized possession and he needs a solution to his problem, which is of course finding the original item in the depths of Antarctica. Throughout the series, the two friends will continue to travel across the gloomy heights of the Tower of London and the tropical Galápagos islands. They will find themselves tangled up in British civil wars, from the Roman invasion to the Battle of Bosworth in 1485 and their very own witch trial in the 1640s. All while a certain Mr Shaykes and his pet kiwi seem to never leave them alone...
This funny, easy-to-read chapter book series will definitely be a favourite among the fans of Hopeless Heroes, Terry Deary's Historical Tales and the Time Travel Twins Series.
