The Seventh Tower is a six-book middle grade fantasy series written by Garth Nix, the author behind The Keys to the Kingdom and The Old Kingdom.
Set in a place called the Dark World, main characters Tal and Milla live in complete darkness. Both their homes are covered by a magical Veil that is blocking the sun, but their people are very different, Tal coming from a line of light-manipulating magicians and Milla an ice-bound Icecaris.
While they are very different, both their homes are in danger: an ancient war between the people of the Dark World and the land of spirits called Aenir is breaking out, and Tal and Milla must find the only place that ever sees the sun, a seven-towered castle on a mountain, if they want to save their loved ones.
If you love a series that involves an epic quest and worlds from other dimensions, we highly recommend this one. This is also a great series if you love a fully developed magic system: in the Dark World, magic is colour-coded and ranked.
