Extinct Series

This non-fiction series by TV scientist Ben Garrod is a must-read for curious minds and science-lovers aged 9+.

From the super-strange to the super-ferocious, Extinct introduces us to some of the weird and wonderful animals we have lost in mass extinctions. Wiped out by asteroids, mega-volcanoes, clashing continents or climate change, these incredible animals used to swim, stalk, slither or walk our planet, long before humans existed.

We don’t think much about the creatures that came before us, but these species were around for 10 million years or so, living and evolving, in a pre-historic world. Extinction is no bad thing, giving us the diversity we enjoy on our planet today.

The science is brought to life in these books, with wonderful illustrations by palaeoartist Gabriel Ugueto, as well as “Ask an Expert” contributions from leading scientists, background on what mass-extinction is and why it happens, and glossary and pronunciation guides.
