One winter afternoon, Caillou decides to make a snowman. While looking for a hat to put on it, Caillou climbs on a chair and falls. Luckily, Mommy is there to teach him to be careful. Under Mommy's close supervision, Caillou experiments. He goes out to make a snowman without his mittens and learns that when it is cold outside, you have to dress warmly. Then, when he is helping Mommy make hot chocolate, Caillou experiments with the temperature of the stove elements. He learns that a hot stove can burn, just like Mommy said. Conceived with the help of a child psychologist, the Step by Step books take everyday situations and present them from the child's point of view.
