The ‘The 10 Little...’ are the best series of books for little ones you can buy. They are charming and feature well written rhymes, counting and excellent illustrations. Each book is very similar in layout but that's where the fun lies and your little one responds to the buzzwords used in each book.
My one year old loves this series and these are by a very long mile her favourite books!
You can't go wrong with them as they are especially robust and well made board books, well worth the money!

This was a fun rhyming book, with fun illustrations. It starts with ten little pirates and one by one something happens to them. Until the last one ends up on a island. But will he be alone. My little boy enjoyed this book.

This is a lovely rhyming picture book with bright and colourful illustrations. The rhyme is a counting rhyme and there are also things to count on each page. Another nice touch is that the ten pirates each appear to be different nationalities. A really nice book.

Leo loves all things pirate and counting. This book is perfect as it combines the two!   It is similar to 'Ten Green Bottles' in that is counts backwards with each pirate disappearing in different ways. Each time there is an onomatopoeic noise as the pirate disappears which we all had fun repeating loudly! At the end 1 pirate is left on a desert island but eventually all 10 float in and they have a party!   The pictures are brightly coloured and clear with lots to identify on each page.

My four year old loves this book so much. I like the mixture of boy and girl characters, that there's so much to look at and talk about on each page. It helps teach them numbers without being obvious about it.

Along with Ten Little Dinosaurs, this is one of my daughter's favourite books. She loves looking at the detailed brightly coloured illustrations and joins in with the phrase 'ten little pirates all say arrr' that appears at the beginning and end of the book.
It's a lovely book for introducing number words and encouraging children to count pirates (and the other hidden counting objects in each picture).

Both myself and my son (2 years) absolutely love this book. It's a rhyming text story about ten little pirates having an adventure at sea, one by one on each page something happens to a pirate so the book counts down 10 to 1. Happily all the pirates are reunited at the end. My son is pirate mad, which is what made me buy this book for him and I am so happy I did - I cannot recommend it enough. It's a lovely easy to read rhyming text, it counts 10 to 1 and it had bright engaging pictures in. An all round winner!

We meet "Ten Little Pirates" onboard a ship, and follow their adventures as each new calamity (weather, wave, hungry squid, competitor pirates' attack) results in the removal of one member of the crew.... until all but one is left shipwrecked on the island (but dont worry the others make a return for a happy ending....). Great book for counting backwards 10 to 1.... and the colourful detailed illustrations provide lots to talk about, new vocab and opportunities to count. My daughter is 3 and has nailed her phonic letter sounds, so we're working on blending..... this book includes lots of onomatopoeic effect with wooooshes, sploooooshes and crashes etc which adds to the appeal for her given where's she's at in terms of discovering words/reading. Good book.

This is a lovely counting book for young children with beautiful bright pictures and clear text for reading aloud. Both my boys love this book and enjoy looking at the pictures to see what else we can spot. From mice hiding, singing mermaids to Pelicans with beaks full of fish.  It was also a great book for my older son to help me to read to my younger son as the book is full of big bold words like 'zap', 'crash' and 'sploosh' which were easy for him to sound out and added to all our enjoyment.

I bought this book as I was looking for board books for my daughter who is currently more interested in eating books than reading them.  At the same time, the counting element of this book will keep it relevant as she gets older.

Ten Little Pirates takes the form of a rhyme counting backwards as the ten strong crew of the pirate ship disappear one by one.  Things look grim for the last pirate, as he has no more ship, no friends and is stranded on a desert island, but in the end the rest of the crew wash ashore safely.  I enjoyed the various catastrophes which befell the pirates. From storms to sea monsters, there was a disaster on every page!  The illustrations are really clear and colourful - bold enough to interest babies, but detailed and ‘cartoony’ enough to interest older children as well.

This was a really fun book to share both as a story and as counting practice, and I’d be interested to read some of the others in the series, such as Ten Little Monsters and Ten Little Dinosaurs.

Counting books are not my favourite to read but this is a great twist with the little pirates, the pictures are bright and exciting and it reads more like a funny story rather than the usual simple countdown with predictable rhymes. My son enjoys reading along although pays more attention to copying the loud sound effects than the numbers!

Coo-ee!!! Brilliant on any day...but perfect on ‘talk like a pirate day’...Ten Little Pirates is great for lo’s learning numbers and fans of pirates, rhymes and fab illustrations!  We look forward to every new addition to the ‘ten little’ family...the format is familiar and the rhyme leads lo’s expertly to countdown the numbers! Arrrrr!!!

I read this to a group of children at nursery, aged 3to 4yrs. They chose it for me to read, as they liked the front cover, and that it was about pirates. It was easy to read, the words flowed due to the rhyming. Each sentence on each page wasn't very long. Something happens to a pirate on each page, so it counts backwards from ten pirates. So I get the children to work out what number is next, each time a pirate disappears, which they enjoy doing. So it is a fun book, which helps with their counting.

Ten Little Pirates 9781408320044

Ten Little Pirates is, as you'd expect, a book to help children learn their numbers from 1-10. There are ten pirates on a boat and as the book goes on, each pirate meets his or her demise until there's just one pirate left. There is a nice turnaround at the end, I won't ruin it, but it's a light-hearted rhyming story for any young pirate lovers out there.

Rhymes are fun and good introduction to counting backwards. Sentences are broken across page turns which means repetition is necessary when also trying to get kids to count the pirates on each page. Pictures are bright and colourful and engage kids well. Mild peril as pirates are vanished in different ways, but all are reunited at the end. We did have lots of conversations about what sharks eat as a result!
